I was hoping this place was as good as people say it is, but it's not. The wait is way too long. The restaurant is extremely cramped. We ordered a flauta plate and the flautas were not crispy at all. The rice had no flavor. Even the tortilla chips were stale. Worst mexican food I've ever tasted. Is this REALLY what people are hyped about? THIS RESTAURANT? My mother makes better mexican food than this!
The people who say this restaurant is good obviously don't know anything about real mexican food.
The worst experience never. The flata plate was horrid. The corn tortilla should be crispy and it was rubbery and the chicken was so dry it's taste like jerky. The Margarita were 10 dollars served on a glass that was only 14 oz.
The owner was not helpful didn't even offer to bring out another plate.
Definately worth a try – Its our after work happy hour hangout..the whole staff is always friendly and accomidating. We love coming here for drinks in the bar or on the patio, its the place to be especially in the summer.
Pros: Great Drinks, Friendly Staff, Good Food
Cons: Inside could use an update
GREAT Traditional Mexican Food!!!! – We went to this restaurant with a group of 10 at approximately 5:00 PM on a Friday evening. From the moment we walked in it was a very pleasant experience! The hostess quickly arranged tables to accommodate us as we were a walk-in party. Once seated the server was very pleasant and prompt with our drink orders. During the ordering phase she was very helpful with information on the entrees and their contents.
It seemed like no time after our orders were takes that all the meals were coming out of the kitchen. All the orders were prepared wonderfully and just described. The portion sizes were enormous! I’m not one to eat like a bird and these servings pushed my limits.
Having to been to Mexico many times I would equate this food to more what would be categorized as traditional Mexican food. Given that clarification the foods taste spot on wonderful! I had the 2 enchilada dinner with rice, beans and gravy and it was some of the best I’ve ever had. Others had a variety from the 2 taco dinner to Fajita Dinner, All commented about the excellence of their meals. I feed 2 adults and a teenage girl for less than $50. As an added server bonus if you’ve been out with a party sometimes it’s unclear if the tip has been included in your bill. Our server not only highlighted the fact that the a 15% tip had been included on every bill but entered it in the final bill she brought back for signature eliminating any confusion.
Hands down I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the San Antonio area that was looking to enjoy traditional Mexican food and receive great prices, service, quality and quantity of the food.
Classic San antonio – My family has been coming here for Fifty years. The food is always Excellent. The Chulpas Compuestas are to die for. i love this place always will. Ask for refried bean when you order a meal you'll be glad you did
"A Night To Remember!" – 35th Year Wedding Anniversary celebration - on the river! Superbly arranged and catered out, by the entire staff of the Mexican Manhattan. Inclement weather hampering events, including a featured barge ride, the staff responded with multiple contingencies keeping our celebration extremely pleasant for our guests and us - yet still managed to pull off all our plans and expectations.
The 5th half star not on their overall rating should be awarded based on their overall quality of service from this event.
Guests comments were: "Not aware of this service and setting - definitely will return."
Horrible the worst food almost ever! – Unfortunatley my family and I headed into the riverwalk at the wrong place and decided to eat here. Worst mistake ever. The only thing that was ok was the service and the margaritas so if you only want drinks and prefer to sit outside it would be fine, the food and atmosphere inside was my problem. The food was so greasy and there was no variety, the salsa was very bland the chips were to thick....and the compliants about the food could go on and on. The inside looks like an old dingy cafeteria with nasty florecent lights. The manager was kind of rude when we mentioned we did not want to sit in the main area due to this it was just flat out so ugly. Like I said our server was very nice He is normally just the bartender though. I do not recomend it at all..........at all it was over piced I paid around $70 it was worth $15, could of had a far better meal at taco bell.
Terrible Food-Terrible Service – Would not recommend. Food was not that great and the service was terrible. The waitress was not helpful at all. She took our food order and as soon as we gave her the last one she quickly walked away. We were not done ordering, we were going to also get mixed drinks but would not give us the time of day to complete our ordering. We tried to call her back and she ignored us. One person in our party wanted a small plate to put her taco on so it would be seperate from the food to avoid being soggy. It took the waitress 20 minutes before she brought that plate. We had to chase her down if we wanted anything else and even then we didn't get it. We also had to wait 30 minutes for her to bring the bill. It was just terrible. There are many very good places to eat at downtown, expecially on the River Walk. Don't waist your time or money on this one.. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!
My favorite restaurant period! – This is my favorite restaurant in San Antonio. My entire family has gone to Mexican Manhattan since it first opened. They started selling fajitas and flour tortillas in the last few years ago, but I never order them because I like the original dinners on the menu the best. It's kinda sad that maybe they felt pressured to offer fajitas and flour tortillas like every other restaurant in town. I stick with original plates and corn tortillas... merchant special, chef's special, or manhattan royal. I love their refried beans best, and I like to order chile over the rice. I have also had a birthday party there with buffet, and everyone had a great time. The bar area is really nice.
Best, by far, Mexican food on the Riverwalk! – This is the place we take visitors when they come to San Antonio. Eat on the patio. Riverwalk ambiance without the bustle. The patio overlooks the river without the crowd of tourists bumping into your table. The food is great and really affordable. The staff is experienced and friendly. You can't beat it.
