One of the West Bank's best kept secrets is a home away from home for a host of local musicians. – The Background
The Old Point Bar's status as a hip, unpretentious music hangout came about purely by chance, when Galactic drummer Stanton Moore approached owner Dale Triguero about establishing a weekly residency during his downtime from Galactic's touring schedule. Since then, the neighborhood watering hole has become a favorite venue for many of the city's most respected musicians. It's also proven that audiences aren't afraid to cross the river in search of quality entertainment.
The Old Point's unassuming atmosphere is perfect for its roster of down-home musicians. It's also conducive to barroom socializing or just hanging out. The Old Point's eclectic bookings draw a number of East Bank scene-makers, hipsters and college students eager to stake an early claim on one of the city's fast-rising hot-list hangouts.
Visit Here, Soon! – What a terrific neighborhood bar. That they feature jazz performed by some of the best musicians in The Crescent City is all good. We were treated like locals when we stopped in for a drink and to catch a set by Jack Fine and the Algiers Stompers. Live jazz at 4:00 in the afternoon on a SUNDAY. The bar itself is open, airy and comfortable. You'll wind up in a lot of interesting conversations with many different folks when you stop in. Just great. Just great. Just great.
