It's heavy on the New York kitsch, but the food's such a guilty pleasure, you won't mind.

Great people watching and late night spot – Centrally located on a hip strip of Houston’s equivalent to Sunset Blvd, Westheimer, Katz’s Deli is Grand Central Station for anyone wanting a good sandwich or a late night bite to eat. Katz’s is one of the few restaurants with the distinction of opening 24 hours a day. So at any given time, for any given reason, you can stop by Katz’s for one of their impossibly thick deli sandwiches. But the draw isn’t just the food or the availability. The reason it reminds me so much of Sunset blvd is the people watching. Katz’s attracts a very eclectic patronage, from club hoppers wanting a late night eat, to Arts district patrons wanting some grub after the opera. My latest visit was with 3 girlfriends after a night at the opera. We arrived on a rainy evening and perhaps because we were dressed up and 4 girls, we got the best seat in the house: one of the wonderful rounded booths with ample viewing room for some great people watching. As I munched on my French Dip sandwich, one of my girlfriends had the egg cream soda, another got the potato skins and a beer, and one got a signature heaping thick turkey sandwich. MMMmmm, some of the best late-night grub you can get. The parking lot in the back is a bit small, but there is another a short walk across the street. I love Katz’s!

I think they have the best tasting sandwiches in the whole city. This place is such an amazing place to go to for lunch. They have the best atmosphere for a sandwich place.

Not as good as Kenny and Ziggy's on Post Oak, which is in a safer neighborhood.

Very big sandwiches, fresh ingredients, and pretty much no waiting. Good desserts too. Open all the time is a bonus since I work odd hours sometimes. I would recommend.

Katz's is Kool! – Hadn't been here for a while. (Actually, years) and had forgotten what a nice atmosphere this place has. And a great variety of people come here. The Ruben's are great! The fried Pickles yummy, the Cheesecake shakes addictive... this is not health food is it? I love it though. The bar is better than I remember too.

Never again – Katz's ads say "we never close". So on this Saturday morning around 5:00 AM, I decide to get bagels to go. I order 2 bagels with lox - $12.49 each, 1 plain - $2.99, 1 whole wheat - $2.99, 1 everything - $2.99. To go tip - $1.59. Tax - $2.68. Total - $36.07.

When I get home I find that all 5 bagels are STALE. Apparently, they did not make the bagels in the morning. Luckily, the purchase was made by credit card and I have recourse.

A bit bland – Been twice and have to say it's just ok. Friends liked it somewhat but both times felt the food was bland, and overpriced. Friendly waiters.
