Dont' go! – My husband and I went to Nick & Rudy?s a couple weeks ago with a few friends. We normally dine as a group at Stoney River but we wanted to give a different restaurant a try. We decided on Nick & Rudy?s because of the high rating on City Search. We will NOT be going back. I don't know how this place is still in business. The menu was overpriced and the food was nothing special. The service was slow - it seems like we were there for 3 hours and the area where we were seated was very dark and uncomfortably hot. Throughout the entire meal, we kept discussing how we should have gone to Stoney River. We will not be making that mistake again!
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE – MY HUSBAND TOOK ME TO NICK AND RUDY'S FOR MY BIRTHDAY. WE SET DOWN, GOT OUR DRINKS AND THE WAITOR TOOK OUR ORDER. WE SIT THERE FOR 30 MINUTES WHEN WE NOTICED TWO MORE COUPLES COMING IN.(THESE COUPLES PLAY A VITAL ROLE) DURING THAT 30 MINUTES, OUR WAITER HAD NOT BEEN BACK TO OUR TABLE. TWO NEW PEOPLE WERE SEATED AT THE TABLE NEXT TO US AND OUR WAITER CAME AND TOOK THEIR ORDER. HE FINALLY CAME TO OUR TABLE (AFTER I STAIRED AT HIM) AND TOLD US THAT OUR FOOD WAS COMING UP. 10 MINUTES LATER THE TWO COUPLES THAT CAME IN 30 MINUTES AFTER US GOT THEIR FOOD. 10-15 MINUTES AFTER THAT, WE NOTICED THE TWO COUPLES WAITERS CLEARING THEIR TABLE BECAUSE THEY WERE DONE EATING. WE STILL DID NOT HAVE OUR FOOD AT THIS TIME. I FINALLY TOLD MY HUSBAND THAT I WAS JUST READY TO GO. WE HAD BEEN AT THIS RESTAURANT SINCE 8:00 AND IT WAS NOW 9:45 AND WE STILL HAD NO FOOD. MY HUSBAND GOT UP FROM THE TABLE, FOUND OUR WAITER, AND TOLD HIM TO BRING US THE BILL FOR THE TEA, WE WERE LEAVING. THE WAITER SAID, "OK". THE WAITER FINALLY CAME BACK OUT AND TOLD US THAT OUR FOOD WAS READY TO COME OUT AND THAT THE MANAGER(RUDY) SAID THAT HE COULD LET US GO OR WE COULD EAT OUR FOOD. I TOLD HIM THAT WE WERE LEAVING THAT IT WAS RIDICULOUS THAT TWO COUPLES THAT CAME IN 30 MINUTES AFTER US WAS ALREADY DONE EATING. HE NEVER APOLOGIZED TO US AND HE NEVER GAVE US AN EXPLANATION. MY HUSBAND THEN CALLED THE RESTAURANT AFTER WE LEFT AND ASKED FOR RUDY. RUDY ALSO DID NOT GIVE AN EXPLANATION OR ANYTHING. HE JUST BRUSHED IT OFF LIKE IT WAS NO BIG DEAL. I DO NOT RECOMMEND GOING TO THIS RESTAURANT AND WE WILL NOT BE BACK.
Mouth-watering steaks, Delicious Sea Bass, Nice Wine List – I've been to Nick & Rudy's 3 times now, it does not disappoint. Sea Bass is superb. Filet mignon is tender, melts in your mouth, and delicious. I love the atmosphere - perfect for anniversaries, a nice evening out with friends, or even a family get- together. (We took our family there over the holidays, and they LOVED it). Wines, Desserts, Appetizers - all are varied and will not disappoint. You'll get great service - the wait staff is quite courteous and helpful. Definitely worth a try! Only menu item we didn't like was the chicken, but my husband isn't a chicken lover, so don't know why he ordered it in the first place.
Humiliating service – I personally have NEVER experienced such poor service nor have I ever experienced such blatant racial discrimination my life. Our party of five sat at our table for more than 20 minutes (after receiving our drinks) for our server to take our lunch order? of which NEVER happened! After finding out that were sitting in the wrong section for the lunch buffet, we were then harassed by the owner and servers about eating from the buffet bar (of which we had formal invitations to). While sitting at the bar we did not receive acknowledgement from the bartender to either purchase a drink or refresh the drinks that we had? What's wrong with this picture?!? I would respect then more if they would have just posted their feeling at the front door? that Nick and Rudy's prefers not to render service to groups of African Americans?.at least we would have not been humiliated in the process.
HORRIBLE Service; Reservations are a Joke; Great Piano Bar if you can stand the smoke..... – Went to Nick and Rudy's for a second chance in less than a month; made reservations both times. First experience (12/1/06) was mediocre food and bad service as we waited for a table, waited for our drinks, and finally waited for our food. No apologies or explanations. Tried again on 12/16; one of the owners, Nick, was rude beyond belief, even being down right insulting. No offers for a free round of drinks, appetizers, or anything. Just said it was Christmas, period. I inquired as to why no one called us (they ask for your phone number when you make a reservation) to tell us they were running late as we were paying a driver--he continued with his rudeness and we walked out; will not return. The piano player is wonderful, if you can stand the smoke, and the other owner, Rudy,is a nice person as well. Not any place we want to spend our money or time as there are much better local dining establishments who value their customers and thrive on being attentive and pampering their guests. You know, the kind of people who make you want to come back, like Sperry's. Very sad because we like to support local restaurants and nice people.
avoid this place unless......... – .....you feel like going to an understaffed nursing home that serves mediocre food. I made reservations with Hugh 2 says in advance. We showed up 20 minutes early (after not being attended to for about 5 minutes) to find that our reservation was not recorded. I was told by one of the owners (short stocky one) that it would be 15 minutes. We had a drink in the geriatric unit...sorry, I meant bar, and the previous reviews are spot-on. Overpriced child-size drinks. Do these people wear these costumes in real-life, or is this just their Nick & Rudy's attire?! We sat in the bar and watched several younger couples wait to be noticed at the hostess station. They got a welcome after a nice while. Now that 20 minutes has passed, I go back up to the hostess stand and wait again for 5 minutes. I ask the owner how much longer as this is my pregnant wife's birthday. He looks over his shoulder at 3 OPEN TABLES, and says "For 2? Right this way". The waiter was good and the food was on par as well. I am 30 and my wife is 28. We are young, but dressed nice. We were not treated with any respect aside from the waiter. Make sure you are not trying to impress anyone with this place as it has severely let me down on an important date. I apologize for being so long winded, but I want to let everyone know how terrible this place is. I was kind enough to leave out that the bartender snapped a $20 out of my hands with a sharp thanks for $14 bar tab (......ummmm, ok, keep it honey) and the 10 minutes we waited in our car for the valet to show up. In short, average food and waiter. TERRIBLE atmosphere, reservation taking skills, and under 65 crowd ignored. AVOID ON SPECIAL OCCASIONS!!!
Not up to par! – Visited Nick and Rudy's on the recommendation of a friend, MISTAKE!
Was disapointed on a number of things, Ordering the favorite prime beef, was tuff/ full of fat, a real turn off. The side was to be a yorkshire pudding? Nothing like ive seen before, and HARD as a rock dry to the bone. Over priced drinks, in small glasses, getting a martini, in a kiddi glass and being charged for the adult size.
Waiter continued to sracth him self, as though he needed to see a doctor which was disturbing, and funny at the same time.
All that and more definitely made the eveing memorable to say the least,
Over rated – 1) There is no way the price should be listed as "$$" ($21-30). Nick & Rudy's should not be compared to the price of moderately priced restaurants in Nashville - it was not near that range (much higher).
2) The staff was friendly enough and the service was responsive enough; but, they kept mixing up our orders and bringing items after we said we didn't want them (i.e., offering wine, dessert, etc... several times after we said we didn't want them).
3) Where did the patrons come from! The people who eat here look like they walked out of the 1960's - we thought it was an act or part of the entertainment (but, they were real customers!). Amazing - its a blast from the past - the whole place (food, people, music, menu come from the Lawrence Welk era! I think Sissy and Bobby were actually spotted dancing at the bar).
4) Bottom line: OK to go to Nick & Rudy's if quality, creativity and value are not part of your restaurant requirements.
Oh.... almost forgot... the night we were there, some of the "regulars" appeared to be at Nick & Rudy's along with their "girlfriends". It was quite a sight!
Birthday Disappointment – My husband and I went to Nick and Rudy's for his milestone birthday. I made a reservation 4 days in advance, told them it was a special occasion birthday, requested a specific table for a specific time, requested a cake, and got the name of the person I spoke to. What a surprise to find that when we arrived at the restaurant, Nick Himself had NO record of our reservation!! Fortunately, I had gotten the name of the employee that booked it. It did us no good in the end, however. We were placed in a noisy banquet room instead of a romantic dining room - we did not get our birthday cake as requested - and felt overall like we were an inconvenience to them because we were not on THEIR list. They made room for us and made it seem like we were the problem. Food was average - there are at least 3 or 4 steak houses in Nashville that are much better. If you have a lot riding on a dinner here - try somewhere else.
A great experience... – My first impression of Nick and Rudy's was how dark the bar was, I walked right by the people I was meeting cause I honestly just couldn't see them. Once my eyes adjusted however I saw what a beautiful establishment Nick and Rudy's was... The bar area was as alive as I have every seen at a higher ranking steakhouse establishment with people even dancing to the piano player. The host (who turned out to be Rudy) told us as we showed up at 8 for our 830 reservation that they were ready whenever we were. My friends and I all enjoyed our steaks very much, although we all agreed that the beef was delicious, a Ruth's Chris steak or even Flemings was still unmatched. But it was close enough to still make a perfect evening for my friends and I. Our server David was extremely attentive and I hope to have him serve us again soon. Upon asking him for a table in the bar after dinner for a cigar he simply said he would "take care of it". He brought our would be server to be introduced to us and we were seated immediately after our dinner and enjoyed another hour at the bar.... I definitely will be back and have nothing but high praise for Nick and Rudy's from here on out.
