Try the fresh salmon on the Foccacia bread . . . – oh my goodness! talk about dying about going to heaven. The staff are wonderful and very accommodating. I wanted some of their ice cream but we were headed to the movies. They offered to keep it in the freezer for me until afterwards. I stopped on my way home and picked it up. Now where could you get that kind of service. The atmosphere is very pleasant. The only thing that I didn't like is seeing one of the tables used for their office work. It's very distracting to have interviews and adding machines being tapped while you're eating lunch. But, for the food, I can live with it.
Great little place- near movies! – This is a great place to eat. There is nothing fancy about the dining room; sort of a Denny's type atmosphere but with Mediterranean paraphernalia! No intimate little cubbyholes. No- come here to eat. This is a mostly a mixture of popular Greek, Italian, and Persian dishes. Some may be a little timorous of the cuisine, but the ingredients and method of preparation are listed, and even a 'meat-and-potatoes' person will find something quite tasty. Try the appetizer mixer and the ravioli!
Great Place for a Great Lunch – I have only ever been there for lunch. The Service has been Attentive, the food has been Delicious and Hot. I love the casual atmosphere, I am comfortable going there with friends or taking Business contacts. Overall, A+
A Mediterranean oasis on busy 33rd South with a few flavorful surprises. – The Scene
It's an unassuming little place with indications that it may have once been a fast-food restaurant. Inside, it's cozy with colorful batik scarves on the windows, tiny twinkling lights in the plants and fabric-covered screens dividing the dining room.
Appetizers of smooth garlicky hummus and lemon-infused spanakopita are casual and delicious finger food. Falafels are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, but a little bland. Kabobs, served with aromatic basmati rice, are a good entr?e choice. The gyro-served open-faced-is a fine and familiar dish for devotees of Greek cuisine. Or branch out and go for the Turkish yogurt pasta: a somewhat unusual combination of penne, tangy tomato sauce, yogurt and sheep-milk cheese.
For delectable flavors try the khoresh-e geymeh-a richly flavored stew with diced beef, yellow split peas and dried limes. The taste is complex, similar to a Mexican mole, but not quite as sweet. Delicious.
Going downhill fast – Cafe Med used to be a favorite restaurant. Four years ago I wrote a review raving about the food, service, and ambience. The ambience is still there, but the food is only okay and the service is terrible. This isn't based on one visit; I've been there several times over the past few years hoping it was just a fluke...but no. The food isn't as good and the service is terrible. We bought a guest from out of town to Cafe Med and after waiting an hour our food still hadn't made an appearance! I've waited a half hour for a mediocre gyro plate. I hope that Cafe Med will clean up their act so I can enjoy going there again. Until then I'll get my Middle Eastern fix at the #1 best place for Middle Eastern food: Mazza! It might be a lot further away and crowded, but it's worth it!
good food – We went on a wednesday night and were quite shocked when the place filled every seat. Apparently they were having a belly dancing show and they aren't usually that busy on a weekday night. Despite the crowded and cramped seating that night, the food was good and the service was great. The wait staff is very friendly and warm. The food was tastey, and plentiful. The servings were huge and decently priced.
Great Food – I really like the food and the atmosphere at Cafe Med. The service is always great and the food quality and low prices keep me coming back.
