This black-box theater is the heartthrob of Midtown. – The History
Local fans who love campy comedies keep coming back to Atlanta's only theater with open-ended runs. Partners John Gibson and Anthony Morris founded the for-profit venue in 1995, creating the 121-seat space from a former blueprint shop that happened to have a raised platform along one side. Audiences for their sold-out shows slide through an inner passage to the Vortex restaurant next door on Peachtree Street to snag cocktails throughout performances.
Gibson and Morris are the artistic directors of this popular low-brow theater. The comic duo packs their sitcoms with politically incorrect humor, taking jabs at local and national personalities with sight gags and jokes that shift to reflect current events. Since the mid-1990s, insiders have hooted at "Peachtree Battle," an Atlanta-style soap opera, "Limousine Ride," a laugh at former First Ladies, and the "Veranda" trilogy, a parody of Buckhead life.
