Baguette Central, this very French bakery specializes in traditional breads and pastries. Used to be known for going the organic route, but they just switched things up, so it'll be interesting to note if there's a change in taste and texture.

20 minutes for a sandwich? Seriously? – Tried this place out for the first time because it is close to my work and I wanted to see if it would make a good occasional lunch spot. Ye gods. I ordered a grilled turkey sandwich, which was decent, though nothing too special, and somewhat overpriced, but the real problem was that it took them 20 minutes to prepare it. Mind you, they've got one food preparer from what I could tell, but the shop wasn't THAT busy and when someone far behind me in the line had questions about the ingredients in the bread, the guy making sandwiches stopped entirely to come out and talk to them rather than having someone else take care of it.

If you've got nowhere to be for a while, this place might be worth checking out, but anybody without full hour for lunch should avoid it like the plague.

Croissants to die for - French Bakery in Belltown - Don't miss it – Don't leave Seattle without stopping by the Boulangerie Nantaise in Belltown to have a croissant or a delicious sandwich or loaf of bread. My favorite sandwich is the Supremo (Salumi's Finocchiona Salame) on rosemary bread) or the hot croissant with melted swiss cheese. The almond croissant's are to die for! Also try the Rosemary Bread - delicious with a bit of olive oil. Fantastic Pain au Chocolat as well.

Be sure to ask to speak with one of the managers to practice your french - they are both french and so are two of the bakers.

I've read a few comments about the service and would suggest that if you have any problems, just ask to speak with the retail manager who is extremely nice and helpful (she speaks with a nice French accent).

French, organic, delicious! – I live in the same building as this bakery and it truly is a shame for my waistline! I've eaten sandwiches there served on fresh baked rolls, but I mostly eat the sweet pastries.

The croissants, pain au chocolat, raspberry croissants, chesse croissants.... mmmm, I'm getting hungry just writing this. I highly recommend stopping by on the way to work and picking up a pastry with your morning coffee and a roll for lunch.

On your way home from work, you can pick up a french baguette, basil loaf, rye loaf, or any of the various flavors.

bakery, small cafe, Bell Town, lunch, locals, weekends, great service, organic, authentic French – After reading the review posted by the previous patron who gave this bakery/cafe 3 strikes, I feel I must give you an update. I work nearby Boulangerie Nantaise and have been coming in for months. Clearly they have had a staff change since February, because I have always found the staff to be friendly, courteous and knowledgeable. The head baker is French and the pastry chef is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. Put all those qualities together and I believe you will be hard pressed to leave this place disappointed or empty handed. They mostly cater to the lunch crowd for wonderful French influenced soups and sandwiches, and they are open until 6pm to make sure local folks can pick up some bread or a scrumptious pastry for their evening meal. It is not unusual for me to linger at my table and enjoy the cheerful banter between the staff and customers. It seems like every 5th person coming in is a regular and always greeted like an old friend. The Breads are yeast free and all organic, (my favorite has Calamatta olives in it). They also have rich buttery Croissants that are made by their CIA chef. Have one of these and you'll never want an ordinary Danish again. There is usually a line at lunch but service is quick and efficient and you won't have to wait long. Sandwiches are priced between $4.45 and $6.95. My favorite is the grilled Croques Monsieur which is ham, Gruyere and bachamel. Half dozen tables inside and similar number outside on a lovely tree lined street. Pet friendly. Definitely a home run.

3 strikes.... – I'll admit that I love the grilled sandwiches and pastries--reminds me of France. However, I will NEVER patronize this establishment again! The first time I went, I find out that they were out of soup and salad dressing (no salad) so I bought a grilled sandwich. It was tasty so I gave them another chance. The second time I ordered a quiche and side salad --quiche was cold and salad had no dressing. Should have learned my lesson... The last time I thought if I DINED in it would be better, and it was THE WORST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE I'VE HAD! They forgot my companion's food and dessert, and when he asked to have his food wrapped up to go instead, they didn't even so much as say sorry... Ridiculous service. I can be rather forgiving with service because I've worked in restaurants, but it was really the worst I've seen.

authentic boulangerie – While visiting Seattle I stopped at every bakery I could find in walking distance of downtown, and this was "the find" of the trip. I bake bread for a living and went to bread baking school in France and as soon as a saw these breads I was impressed. These levain breads are baked on an authentic french stone hearth oven and the shapes and flavors are the real deal. Every detail of french artisan baking has been carried through with great detail.

The vienoisserie looked pretty wonderful as well. The most impressive thing though is the commitment to biologique or organic flour. Why is this bakery not supplying more restaurants in town?

This is the real thing.... – I am new to the coast, but have spent a great deal of time in France. The bakery there is fantastic.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered this bakery. One bite from these classic breads and I was taken back to the French countryside.

Le Pain...has a devoted customer.
