A three-story Greek Revival mansion great for relocating and corporate retreats..
The Scene
A Civil War soldier and Texas senator built this three-story Greek Revival home in 1910. With white columns and a second-floor verandah tucked behind a black, wrought-iron fence and lovely gardens, it's a perfect accoutrement to the historic Avondale district (just south of downtown) in which it resides.
The Details
Current owner, Mark Kilworth, purchased the home in 1996, restoring its original look and maintaining many antiques from a previous proprietor. The home includes a guesthouse with two bedrooms, kitchenette and bathroom, and two spacious suites--the second floor suite features a beautiful, enclosed verandah, while the third-floor suite is actually a full-size apartment, complete with living room, full kitchen, bathroom and three beds. The latter is often booked by people relocating to the area. A note on persistence: the telephone number defaults to the owner's cell phone, and it may take you a while to get through.
