Pittsburgh's newest theater is also its nicest. – The Scene
Designed by architect Michael Graves, the four-story building features a state-of-the-art performance facility with a thrust stage (audience on three sides) and entrances off the sidewalk. The theater is fluidly designed featuring plenty of wood, a mural by Graves and a spectacular view of Penn Avenue. The O'Reilly shares Penn Avenue with its larger neighbors, the Benedum Center and Heinz Hall--a triangle that makes up the heart of Pittsburgh's Cultural District.

The Skinny
Named in honor of Dr. Anthony J.F. O'Reilly, chairman of the H.J. Heinz Company, the O'Reilly Theater opened on Dec. 11, 1999 with the world premiere of playwright August Wilson's "King Hedley II." The 650-seat theater is one of the few U.S. theaters built from the ground up during the last decade. While the O'Reilly is owned by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, it is leased to Pittsburgh Public Theater. In 1975, PPT opened with the mission to provide an artistically diverse theatrical experience of the highest quality in order to serve, challenge, stimulate and entertain. More than 100,000 theatregoers in the Pittsburgh region attend the Public's plays every year.
