The Knitting Factory - what a dive! – I attended the Johnny Winter concert at The Knitting Factory in August, '09. The air conditioning was set so extreme that everyone around was shivering, including men! I asked several of the staff about it and they all said there was nothing they could do - translate: they didn't give a #%&*. The music was ridiculously loud - I saw several people wearing ear plugs. I'm sorry - but what's the point in going to a concert if you have to wear earplugs? The restrooms were shockingly filthy. The smell of urine sturck me from as far away as the hallway leading to restrooms. The walls are covered with grafitti and filth. I was afraid to touch anything. Other women in the restroom were complaining about how dirty it was. I couldn't wait to leave the concert. In fact, we left before it was over. I will never pay for a concert in this venue again! What a dive!
Bad experience at the Big Easy Concert House in Boise – I really do not have anything good to say about this venue. I travelled to Boise to see one of my favorite bands. They were not playing in my area during their tour and I travelled out of state to see them.
The venue itself is pretty nice but the staff and equipment could have been better. The microphones were bad so I could barely hear the singers. They allowed crowd surfing and mosh pits which interfered with my ability to enjoy the concert. I had to duck several times to avoid being kicked in the head by a crowd surfer. My wife complained to the security guard and he just gave her a look and did nothing to stop the crowd surfing and moshing. They did not allow cameras inside the venue either. This made no sense as they allowed crowd surfing and mosh pits but no cameras. Go figure.
The worst part of the evening was when I tried to meet the band. I had managed to get backstage passes to meet my favorite band. Never in a million years would I have ever dreamed of getting backstage passes, but some friendly guy in the crowd gave me a pass for heping him out. I am sitting in the stage area after the show with several people waiting to meet the band for almost half an hour when the security guard informs us that the band had left. I was so extremely angry and disappointed. Had anyone bothered to tell the band that there were people waiting to meet them? I would not think they would snub their fans like that. All in all it was a very disappointing experience. I travelled to Boise from California for a weekend getaway and concert only to leave with a bad taste in my mouth. Although Boise was a nice city, I can honestly say I have no desire to return to this venue for anything.
