Bring your own wheelchair if you have a disability. Port Columbus is one of the worst airports for people with disabilities. Shuttle availability, as well as wheelchairs, are limited and not always around when you need one. For someone with a disability, standing for 15-30 minutes in the pathetically understaffed security checkpoint is painful and exhausting. And that's just for starters. Last May I flew back from Minneapolis on Northwest. The gate is in the far back corner of Concourse B. It took a full hour for me to limp, rest, and limp some more from the gate to Baggage Claim and then underneath all the way to Ground Transport to catch the shuttle to the Blue Lot. The people mover was out of service in the passage between Baggage Claim and Ground Transportation and there was nowhere to sit and rest. I'm flying out to Minneapolis for Christmas and I'm actually driving to a different city to an airport that's more reliably ADA-compliant. I will avoid flying out of Port Columbus whenever possible.
Where you still don't have to hop a train to get to your gate..
Overview
Port Columbus International Airport, which marked its 75th anniversary in 2004, boasts non-stop service to 30 cities. The airport is served by every major U.S. airline. The airport's largest expansion project, completed in 1999, added a six-level parking garage, an extensive rental car facility, a 100-foot-tall glass atrium and an overhauled food/retail service area. In 2001, the airport broke ground again and added a new air traffic control tower. But Port Columbus is still small enough to make, say, Atlanta's humongous Hartsfield Airport seem like a bad dream.
The Experience
Check out what makes Port Columbus unique: pop artist Roy Lichtenstein's sculpture, "Brushstrokes in Flight"; local burger chain Max & Erma's; Columbus coffeehouse chain Cup O'Joe; local microbrewer Columbus Brewing Company and, of course, goofy TV commercial icon Dave Thomas' Columbus-based Wendy's.
Mostly good. CMH is a great airport all around. It is not large, although a 30-40 gate terminal is planned. There are resteraunts all over and you can access them while waiting for an arrival unlie some airports. There is also plenty of parking near the terminal for easy access. The lines are usually not very long except on holidays, then they are packed, and the security is usually pretty quick. The skycaps aren't the best though and I would advise against letting them get your tickets from the counter so you can skip it and go right to the security. There have been times where skycaps get the tickets and don't have boarding pass. Other than that it is a fairly good airport with good food and service, but if you want fast food, there isn't much, most of the resteraunts are normal resteraunts.
friendly skys. This airport is the most cost effective airport in the tirstate area. The resturants have good food and the service is good. Parking is cheap and close, even if you use a long term lot. I fly out of this airport several times a year.
A Gem. A great airport. Tons of close, covered parking from which you can easily walk to the gates. Easy highway access. Great gates, with plenty of seats. Good security (they even speak English)! Food choices are still a bit limited, and they need a few more baggage carousels. But still the classic arrive, park, and fly out in 30 minutes airport. (Great shuttles from the cheap remote lots, too.)
Not Inviting.
The parking at this airport is ample and easy to access. The airport itself is less inviting. Gift shops were few, and the merchandise was sparse and in many instances dust-covered.
There were very limited fast-food choices available, the service was slow, and the servers appeared disinterested in providing service (or even speaking).
If you have a long wait, you'd better bring along a good book -- there's not much here to occupy your time.
