Still On Top – Many people feel that this place is a shabby shack with poor BBQ. Mr. Cecil ambiance is unique and feels like a real BBQ joint. Yeah, it's small but the ribs are worth waiting for. The price is right and the best deal is the Triple Combo is the best. Be perpared to lick those fingers and enjoy some good traditional BBQ. The best in town!!!!
BEEF RIBS!!! – I have never had such delicious beef ribs in my life! So I tried the baby back (pork)last time...no thank you- dry I thought. Its all about the beef ribs at Mr. Cecils. I find it friendly, I think the side dishes are great. I love the shabby look, its a rib joint for goodness sake! I try to go during off peak hours- plenty of parking and tables then. The price is okay- most rib places are expensive, so it was no shock. Yum!
Best Memphis style ribs in los angeles – Being from Tennessee its hard to find good ribs out here in LA. Very hard in fact! Mr. Cecil's would be considered average compared to what i'm used to back home but its definetely the best i've found in los angeles for baby back ribs. The sauce is super important and they get it right, and the meat is cooked perfectly so it falls right off the bone. The prices are a little high, the sides (bbq beans and coleslaw) are no good, though the fries are very good and the corn on the cob looks amazing though i've never tried it. The place is tiny and parking can be a little hard to get sometimes but if you want real memphis style ribs you have to go here!
Good Stuff – This is by far the best bbq I've had in a restaruant. The baked beans are fantastic with lots of bacon and the ribs really do fall off the bone. Usually what makes or breaks a bbq joint is their sauce. If you don't like the sauce, you're out of luck because your ribs are slathered in it. However, the best part about mr. cecil's is that the ribs are done with a dry rub, so sauce is not necessary as the ribs are already full of flavor (I think that they even mention this on the menu, to try the ribs sans sauce first). Both their sauces are terrific though. I've since introduced many folks to this place and they all loved the joint. It ain't cheap though....and the parking blows....and there's not much space inside....but if you can look past these things, you've got yourself a winner!
Excellent dry-rub style bbq! – Food has always been consistenly good at Mr. Cecil's and we've recommended this bbq joint to many friends. I wish their location was a little bigger, but we usually take it to go so it's not a big negative. The hush puppies are a must and try the spicy bbq sauce for an extra kick!
Let Me See If I Get This Right – I looked at all of the reviews on Mr. Cecil's and the were, for the most part, universally bad and yet the rating is in the high 8's out of 10. Exactly how is that? I get the feeling that Citysearch is interested in income from the likes of Mr. Cecil and NOT showing the actual ratings. If by some chance this actually gets posted to the site, Citysearch needs to respond! I doubt they will.
Outstanding BBQ for LA – Having read some mixed reviews of this place, I was a bit skeptical. But I find myself agreeing with the people who believe that this is some of the best BBQ in LA. I had the baby back ribs, which were excellent, even without the sauce. Both of their two sauces were outstanding, though. I also recommend the grilled corn with lime butter - very good stuff.
It is a little on the pricey side, and the ambience leaves a little something to be desired, but I found the food to be well worth the price. The staff were very helpful and attentive, although I went at a time when it wasn't that busy. Judging from other reviews, I'm guessing that this place may be something of an inconsistent experience, but mine was very positive. If you like good BBQ, I suggest that you at least give it a try.
Good BBQ - but a little expensive – Since there are limited BBQ choices on the Westside in LA - this is a good choice. Decent pork and beef ribs and the standard sides. The prices are a little too expensive though - $25 for a pork and beef rib combo. It's good, but not that good.
This rating's too low!!!!! – This place has THE BEST beef ribs I have ever eaten! Now, I've always though it was all about the pork ribs. I was wrong. While the pork ribs are some of the best I've eaten, the beef ribs are some of the best tasting pieces of meat anywhere, of any cooking style. Should you go for the pork, I recommend the St. Louis Style. To be honest, the ribs aren't the best thing there. The baked beans are! Also the slaw is amazing and the hush puppies are the best I've had anywhere as well. I've only gotten take out, and they are slow and I suggest you check your order before you leave. I'd be happy to sit and eat though, as there are a bunch of really cute waitresses and nice outdoor seating.
Inconsistant – We have been having their excellent ribs delivered over the last five years. Yum, yum is all we can think. Recently they have been telling us we are not in their delivery area or they are too busy to deliver. We look forward to the deliverys but their inconsistancy is giving our family grief. I hope they get their act together as the food is GREAT.
