A Mixed and Unsatisfying Experience – I don't know quite what to think of this place. The building is nice, the food is good, the room is attractive, and the staff is polite and friendly, but there have been a lot of problems. First, when we came in, the room was 90F by the wall thermostat. When we looked around, there were bits of stuff all over the carpet, and there were white spots on the glass doors and the headboard - I think it was just cleaning product overspray, but yuck! There was one piece of chocolate and one robe for two guests, which was odd, and the bathroom door hangs at an angle off its hinges so you have to jimmy it to get it to close. Then on our second day, housekeeping never showed up, and the front desk person made some vague excuses . . . it was kind of odd. Also, the wireless internet was terribly weak, and there was an unadvertised $17 per night charge to park. Really, the place could be very nice, but they just keep missing it. They're so nice, I hate to be disappointed, but there's too much wrong to ignore.
One of the nation's finest hotels is nestled amid the high-rises of downtown Clayton. – History
Patterned after Nathaniel Hawthorne's "House of the Seven Gables," this 1926 Tudor revival building is on the National Register of Historic Places. A renovation in 1986 updated the inn in the style of a European luxury hotel. Located in the midst of Clayton's office buildings, the inn is an oasis. The atmosphere and amenities seem more appropriate to a small European village than a bustling Midwestern city.
Business or Pleasure
The inn's 32 rooms cater to romantic weekends and hectic business trips. Whether you're looking for a data port and desk or room service and chocolates on your pillow, the Seven Gables Inn will provide it.
stay at the ritz – Romance is difficult when the cabinet doors are missing and broken, the celing is covered with black dust bunnies and the shower is growing a science project. The towels and bed sheets were worn thin and the robe, well, the goodwill woud throw it out. The screaming child in the next room was just an added bonus. Next time we'll stay at the Ritz.
