Modest gateway to the Party Capital of the World. – Overview
Befitting the "small town in big city clothes" that is the Big Easy, the airport is a compact but serviceable facility in a suburb about 15 minutes from downtown. The main level features just four concourses (no shuttles or moving walkways required) branching off from a large ticket area, which handles business for a dozen carriers, from biggies such as Continental to smaller airlines like Lacsa. Vehicular traffic is generally heavy in lanes that run outside both levels--and parking on either is strictly prohibited. A parking garage lies just beyond these lanes, bridged to the terminal by a convenient indoor walkway, and accommodates short- and long-term parking.

Travelers may collect their bags and hail taxis from the lower level. A typical collection of newsstands, lounges, eateries and souvenir-heavy shops dot the main level and concourses.

Much Imporved – This Airport used to be a very standard AP,but new changes and attitude you feel the New Orleans flavor as soon as you arrive. I have travel to a lot of different AP,Detriot,Memphis,CA,FL,TX and none have a different feel. In MSY you know your aren't in Kansas anymore

A mess – The New Orleans Airport has struggled through many different formulas for traffic flow in and out of the airport. Until Sep 11th, the current, very strange flow pattern seemed to work but now it has completely broken down.

The airport interior requires long walks especially to the single rental car shuttle station and has the smell of mold in the older sections.

Not a great place to get stuck... a real mess. Food is over priced, crowds are large, and facilities are limited.

Hopefully Getting Better – Due to the change in administration to Mayor Naguin, I think things at Louis Armstrong International will soon look up. When the new parking garage opens, parking woes should be limited.

The Little Airport That Could – "Louis Armstrong" International Airport has always suffered something of an inferiority complex compared to other, bigger and busier airports...heck, the whole thing could fit into a corner of Atlanta's Hartsfield. But given its small size and less-than-glitzy interior, it gets the job done. Yes, there could be better food and drink options along the concourses, more and ample parking would help, and the main ticket/checkin area could definitely use a makeover. Still, better to refurbish this one before trying to build another one somewhere in the swamps.
