The ghosts of football history are gone, but the prime riverfront locale remains, and the amenities are sweeter than ever. – Overview
Some of the greatest moments in NFL history went up in a cloud of dust when the vaunted Three Rivers stadium was imploded in early 2001. Even with the 127 luxury suites, the new home of the Steelers and the Pitt Panthers has a long way to go before achieving the legendary status that Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris and all the other Steeler greats bestowed upon their former battleground. But now that the storied franchise has put together another Super Bowl season, the new stadium at least allows fans to root along in style.
With a 65,000-seat capacity, Heinz Field is on the small side for NFL stadiums, promising an intimacy lacking in most professional football venues. The horseshoe architecture takes advantage of the scenic riverfront location, with the open end zone offering panoramic views of the water. The 6,600 club seats and three-story atrium club lounges also promise a luxurious experience for well-heeled fans.
