Worst restaurant experience ever – And I dine out a lot. Holy smokes, was this place bad. I was there with a friend tonight, a Tuesday evening. It started off just OK. "Do you have a wine list?" "We're out of red." Fine. Of the 5 taps at the bar, only Budweiser was available, and bottles of Pacifico. We had Pacifico.
The salad was tasty, especially the dressing, but I could have done without the dog hair (or really long old man chest hair?) I found in it. I chose to pull it out and ignore it. The pasta - butternut squash ravioli with tomato cream sauce - was OK, on par with what I've had from the Trader Joe's freezer section. Then I asked about dessert, as I had noticed that the 4 or 5 on the menu looked tasty. They were all out of dessert. Fine. The server, who I should mention was great, brought the bill.
When I tried to include a $25 restaurant dot com gift certificate as payment, he said, "I don't think we accept those anymore." "Really? It has already been paid for, and it hasn't expired yet." "I don't think we can take them, but I'll get the owner if you want me to." "OK." So out plows the disgustingly uncleanly looking owner/chef, roaring all the way, "ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE, RRAAAARRR!!" and proceeds to tear into us about how much money "those people" have taken from him, how he had tried 3 times to cancel his association with them, how he first tried 6 months ago and they're still selling gift certificates... "But I bought this almost a year ago, so that was before you cut them off," I told him. "I DON'T CARE! I'M NOT TAKING IT! DIDN'T YOU SEE THE SIGN ON BOTH DOORS? RAAARRRR!" No, the doors were propped open when we came in. He proceeded to throw profanities at us even after one of the other customers piped up, "Hey, you have other customers here..." Meanwhile, friend & I were just sitting there dumbfounded that a business owner would treat customers this way. Had he treated us with a shred of respect, I would have paid for the full meal and taken it up with restaurant dot com. As it was, I told him, "If you're not going to take this, I'm not paying for the meal." Fine, he told me.
Ultimately, I paid the balance of the check minus the $25 for the sake of my own conscience. As we left, he yelled after us, "See you later. DON'T EVER COME BACK! RAARARARRR!!" I flipped him off behind my head and we stepped over what was probably the source of the dog hair in the salad as we left. The owner is a repellent human, and the cuisine was mediocre at best. Will never consider going back, and I'm shocked the place is still in business.
gourmet,yet fun-all distilled into a memorable meal. – So, how do I know when I have enjoyed an extra delicious restaurant dinner? Easy. My first thought upon awakening is this: "Did I bring home any leftovers? I want them for breakfast. Happily for me, there was an ample amount to take home-because the portions at Medin's were gi-normous! One might think it unusual to have ravioli for breakfast. Even for me, it is. But, I tell you- this is not your usual ravioli. Not by a long shot.
Perfect, puffy little morsels, plumped up with all manner of exotic fillings. For example, I had a 3-mushroom
ravioli (I think it was chanterelle, morel, and shitake) delicatley napped with a silky gorgonzola cream sauce. And, flavorful? Oh my.
Upon recommendation by our hospitable and efficient waiter, my husband selected an unusual entree: shredded pork ravioli, with an asian-style sauce,rife with a mellow garlic, and all manner of pungent flavors. Think a sort of potsticker, gone sophisticated. And, the presentation? Like an exquisitley arranged still-life painting; first you feast your eyes, then your taste buds.
We wanted to sample the desserts- but, alas- we were full. So we opted to take the chocolate cake home. Again, a good choice. We had that as an accompaniment with tea. The cake was intense with premium quality chocolate flavor. A sort of "yin/yang thang" decadently rich~ yet, so light on the tongue! Save room, this is chocolate nirvana.
All this gastonomic elegance, in an earthy,soulful atmosphere. The sort of place that warms your heart, as well as your tummy. Despite the high quality and serious attention to the detail of the food, this place is here for fun. Nothing stuffy about it. The unusual hand-made bar looks out on the dining room. The bar in itself is something to see. A heated bar rail, to warm your hands. Seriously. Something you might want to consider, when the fog and drizzle gets to you- along about mid-November. Also, you'll be perched high a-top bar seats made from pistons from a train locomotive. Relax~ they are generously padded.
The chef/proprietor, Bill Medin, has seamlessly melded distinctive, carefully crafted food with a fun, warming atmosphere. This chef has a rare gift: Talent.
Medin's Ravioli looks to me to be like a lot of art:
a labor of love.
Delicious food, delightful staff. – I'm a serious foodie - and when I first walked into Medin's I was a little skeptical due to the waitstaff smoking in the front of the restaurant (but they apologized as we approached the entrance). Turns out the waitstaff was super-friendly and attentive, and we received top-notch service (we were there on a rainy Wednesday night, we pretty much had the place to ourselves). The seafood ravioli is sinful - scallops & prawn with a citron creme sauce - yummy! The rest of my party was very happy with their dishes as well (Sirloin ravioli & the Sampler). Come hungry, and keep an open mind to allow for the quirkiness of this unique restaurant.
Everything on the menu is amazing! – I have been coming to this place for years. I moved away for a little while and have recently moved back and was so happy to see that the station was still there. The food was as good as I remembered. I have read some recent reviews and just think that some times you pay for the atmosphere. Yes the place is a little neglacted and the chef is a little crazy, but the food is amazing and so cheap. You get a plate of food that is impossible to finish, but it reheats perfect for lunch. Dont let the size of the main course deter you from getting the salad because it is by far the best salad I have had anywhere. The soups are also amazing. The crazy chef people talked about is one of the most hospital hosts that sends things from apps to shots. He makes you feel you are in his home eating dinner with his family, even though he never remembers me from the last time I came in. The place has character of its own and everyone should try it out. If you are a stuffy pretentious person then I do not recommend trying. But if you want great food, fun crazy atmosphere, with a small bill and story to tell the next day, then I recommend it. A bonus... there was live music the last time I went in. First Wed of every month I guess. Try it out and have fun! Sit at the heated bar, its the best.
RAVIOLI WORLD: WHAT A TREAT – After several recommendations from friends, we decided to try out the restaurant. This is THE place to visit. The owner, Bill Medin is an award winning chef from California. Voted best take-out by City-Search 3 years and going, including best entree at the bite of Seattle. I was surprised to read the other reviews about the underwhelming service. We've been here several times since. All the food speaks for itself. I highly recommend this place!
Bad Idea Station! Next stop...Anywhere but here. – We have driven by this interesting restaurant many times and decided to give it a try. What a huge mistake! The waitress brought out bread and water, the bread is awesome! While we were eating our salads the waitress decided to tell us her wrist hurt and she didn't want to be there. That was evident... She bitched about it the rest of the night. Then she left the restaurant unattended for fifteen minutes to go out and have a smoke with another employee. While she was gone, we noticed the only thing holding the open cash draw together was a piece of duct tape. This place is a JOKE! Don't waste your time or money!
Maybe the food is ok, but the service was so bad it's hard to remember-
Horrible Service – More than a year later, I had an experience very similar to the one posted by winkus34 on 09/24/2005, though we made the mistake of staying for dinner. The waitress was awful, choosing at one point to clear a table in the mostly empty restaurant rather than check on our table, and refill our drinks, which remained empty the majority of our meal. The food was OK, but definitely not enough to make up for the horrible service. The waitress was semi-attentive to tables that had kids at them, several that came in after us had their orders taken and were served quite a bit before we were, apparently the waitress was expecting a bigger tip from them. We had planned to order appetizers and dessert, but as it was it took almost an hour of sitting with empty plates for us to get the server to even bring us our check. I'll never go back, and I'll warn everyone I can against making the same mistake I did. Clearly this isn't a one-time thing, this restaurant has a habit of treating customers poorly.
Awesome Ravioli – I like restaurants that focus on one thing and do it really well. Medin's is a great example of this. The have a variety of ravioli and sauces and all are delicious. Definitely check this place out!
Big on flavor and easy on the wallet, the Station's got plump raviolis for taking out or dining in. – In Short
From the street, it looks like a donut shop with tinted windows. Once inside, peach walls and low lighting add a touch of warm polish to this budget-friendly restaurant. Fresh pasta bundles a handful of fillings, ranging from four-cheese and spinach, to house-smoked salmon with capers and scallions. You pick the sauce: marinara, Alfredo, tomato-cream or roasted red pepper. A small salad or the soup of the day comes with the meal.
Filthy! Obnoxiously loud music, inebriated chef – The laminated menus that were given to us were sticky with food remnants, the wine glasses were coated with slime (were either not washed at all or their dishwasher needs major help), the chef was playing DJ and had the music cranked up WAY too loud (its not a nightclub) and was singing off key and shouting about monkeys (?) all night. I think he must have had the only clean glass (or bottle) of wine in the place and was the only one having a good time. The service was unattentive - we had to ask twice for the wine, twice for our soup and twice for our bill. The food was underwhelming- we left without finishing it or ordering dessert.
