Houston owes much of its world-class charm to an oak-lined square mile of sparkling cultural institutions. – The Scene
While Manhattan has Fifth Avenue's magnificent Museum Mile, the Bayou City's Museum District is equally breathtaking and increasingly important. It's also a visually stunning landscape, from the serene tranquility of the Menil's grounds to the shimmering waters of the Mecom Fountain.

The Collection

Don't miss museums designed by two Pritzker Prize-winning architects: Renzo Piano's Menil Collection, whose graceful structure rivals Mrs. D's holdings, and the light-filled splendor of the Beck Building at the Museum of Fine Arts of Houston, by Spanish great Rafael Moneo. Since the Menil's opening in 1987, there have been a plethora of fresh arrivals--new buildings, renovations and even just-created museums contributing to a diverse and intriguing cultural experience. From art to natural science, history to medicine, you'll find it at one of the Museum District's institutions.

Museums are good – o.k. i'm not much for the catchy title. But the museum district is a treasure of houston everyone should see. Firstly the Architecture the Menil Colection is perhaps the greatest work of Renzo Piano one of the most influential architects of are times, he also did the Cy Twomby Gallery next door. The Bissonet/Montrose face of the MFAH is the only curved facade designed by Mies Van der rohe (one of the fouder's of modern architecture) which was ever built. The Byzantine Frescoe chapel, the Contemporary Arts Museum & the Holocaust museum are also worth the trip for their architecture alone and i running out of space to say any thing about the Rothko Chapel, Noguchi Garden, and the MFAH's new wing. Not to metion natural sciences and so on. Oh yeah, beside the architecture thay have Art and Stuff Inside.

FANTASTIC – Never have I ever lived somewhere else where there was such a collection of FIRST RATE museums located so close to one another! To visit and see and fully appreciate every one of them would take at least 3 days...

Set aside 2 hours for the tour. Be prepared to be amazed.
