Venice Whaler Bar and Grill, save you time energy and health – This place is terrible. ABSOLUTELY NO SERVICE! i met with a party of 6, friends flew in from Austria, another friends first time in Venice. supposed to be a perfect Santa Monica get away? guess again.
There where rats, roaches, food was gross, a pitcher of Budweiser was $19. The bouncers and waters and waitress's where kicking people out who they didnt feel left adequate tips. i seriously whitnessed 3 people bounced strictly for the reason of undertipping, and being threatened with jail if they didnt leave quietly.
bottom line, this place sucks, stay away unless you want embarrassment and food poisoning.
Skip this place – Exceptionally slow service combined with demanding a credit card befor ordering equals going elsewhere.
No other bar/restaurant I know checks your credit befor ordering.
Boston Celtics Bar! – I joined this website just to write this review. I cannot believe there is a Boston Celtics bar on the beach in Venice. I went here with friends and the place is just flooded with green. There is nothing purple in this bar. Expect to be heckled and mistreated if you are a Lakers fan. Our service was horrible and some blonde bimbo waitress was slurring and rude at three in the afternoon... It's really a bad scene. I've read the reviews below and believe me the positive reviews are clearly artificial. It's really sad to see something like this in Lakerland.
The crowd is green, the employees borderline retarded, and it's in our heartland. I say boycott this place.
THE BAD REVIEWS ARE TRUE!
Reaffirm your lack of faith in humanity – Depressing covers the food, the service, the management, and the clientele. Over amplified music by what has to be the owner's unemployed brother-in-law's band, soggy and unclean looking food, drunk frat boys convincing themselves that they're having fun while convincing no one else. Nice view, when the pot dealers aren't fighting with the homeless guys in the parking lot, and assuming the drunk fat girl singing bad karaoke doesn't harsh your mellow too much. I'd just hang myself and leave my family the 50 dollars instead of putting it in some sleaze's pocket.
One of the Worst Dining Experiences of my Life – My friends arrived earlier in the afternoon to snag a table at what I heard, was a pretty cool spot. When I got there, my friend's informed me it took 30 minutes to get potato skins, while everyone else's food had arrived, but his. And that the waitress hadn't stopped by the table in at least 20 minutes.
Upon arrival of my drink, I ordered a quesadilla. My friend's Veggie Pizza arrived 10 minutes after I ordered, but no quesadilla. She ate her food, and her plate was cleared, but still my order had not come. After a good half hour, I asked about my food. The waitress responded with, you wanted the veggie pizza. No, I ordered a quesadilla. She left and came back 10 minutes later, and said, 'You still want the quesadilla, right?' I told her I did, I was hungry. So almost 45 minutes later my quesadilla arrived, and yes, it was delicious, but I was super disappointed with the time it took.
Along with the unacceptable waiting for food, my friends were waiting for 30 minutes for pitchers of beer, that we would remind the waitress of, but for some reason, she kept forgetting.
We were to the point where we just wanted out of there, even though it would have been wonderful to watch the sunset. We asked for our check and after waiting for 20 minutes, I got up and asked Susanah for our check and a manager.
We waited another 10 minutes, still no check and by then, one of our friends had gone up to get the manager from the bar. She came over to our table to drop the check and said, 'Please don't talk to my manager. Are you really going to do this to me?' Mind you, she had added 18% gratuity, and added a beer that no one ordered. (At one point, we had to go to the bar to pick up a beer we ordered) I honestly felt bad for her, but this service was unacceptable. We tolerated it, in hopes of a beautiful sunset view, and the fact that we were hoping it would get better and were giving her the benefit of the doubt.
The manager came over and asked what the problem was, and I explained the situation to him, and told him we wanted the beer we didn't order taken off, along with the 18% gratuity. He said that was impossible because it's their policy that 18% is added to every tab. Funny, when we told the waitress we were waiting for the manager said she would take the 18% off, and we didn't need to tip her at all, as long as we didn't get the manager involved. He refused to take off the gratuity and questioned us as to why we would stay if the service was so bad. He left the table, and when he came back he offered to buy us all a drink, but that he wasn't going to take off the gratuity. I said that wasn't what we were looking for but we wanted the gratuity off. Finally, we got the gratuity taken off. When she came back with the bill she kept saying how, no one has ever complained about her, and that she was busy, and that she does a great job, and we didn't understand her or give her the time she needed to get things done.
If it wasn't bad enough, it gets worse. We still left our waitress an over 10% tip after all of this (I couldn't stiff her as I've worked in this industry) and went to hand her the bill and say thank you for taking care of this issue. Susanah, our waitress, was talking to another table as I was saying thank you. She then told me I was stuck-up and should learn to be humble. I couldn't believe she was insulting me and said I understand you are allowed to have your opinion. The people at the table proceeded to make comments towards me, and before I left, the waitress turned to me, and said I was a b*tch. FINAL STRAW.
Unprofessional, intolerable, and completely unnecessary.
Friendly locals gather for cocktails at this Venice bar with a great ocean view. – The Scene
Technicolor sunsets, palm trees in silhouette, buffed-out bodies and rollerbladers on the boardwalk. Life's a picture-perfect postcard from L.A. at this longtime, mostly locals' watering hole with a laidback atmosphere and comfortable, no-frills decor. When the upstairs deck gets too crowded, watch the passing parade from the window seats downstairs. Multiple TVs and satellite radio provide entertainment options, but it's really all about the vibe and the view.
It's multiculti Cali, casually dressed. Combine equal parts singles, couples and groups, throw in local color and serve well-chilled. Designate-a-driver drinks and call-a-taxi cocktails are the main attraction, with tap brews, margaritas and a breakfast-to-dinner menu as other options. Whether you order German chocolate cake shots, mind-bending citrus-almond beer concoctions or an Irish whiskey neat, keep in mind the bartenders here are mixologists, not actors: Red Bull and vodka? You'll have to go to Hollywood for that.
Great place to watch sunset – Whaler is low key, great locals spot!!! Has awesome Happy hour, the view is amazing!!! Great summer day hangout
Super fun beach bar! – I love this bar! This is such a great location, right on the beach. The food is good, not special, but good. The drinks are excellent and everything is priced accordingly. Great place to watch games, although there aren't a lot of tv's. Upstairs is balcony seating and a bar, downstairs is more like a sports bar. This place is HOPPING on the weekends with tons of beach combers and tourists, but well worth your time. Just valet and call it a night!
As the sun goes down on my Guinness! – I have been filling up space in this beach side bar for the past 4 years. This establishment harmonizes with the beach in a very unique fun way. There is no bar on the west coast that greets the pacific so well, believe me I have been to nearly all of them on my pilgrimages up and down the coast. From lounging around on a sunny afternoon to light hearted conversations with friends and other happy patrons as we bit farewell to the sun, only to drink another toast to the arrival of the moon! Truely every experience here is a true experience.
Great place for sunsets – This is an excellent bar to watch the sunset -- an uninterrupted view of the ocean and mountains, good drinks & an excellent staff....even an outdoor smoking area where you can drink AND smoke at the same time.
