Shop alongside the chefs of Atlanta for everything from kitchen decor to deli favorites
Star Provisions packs quite the gourmet punch into such a small space - a local farm stand with fresh veggies, a nationally acclaimed cheese shop, a meat counter with house cured charcuterie, a mouthwatering bakery and a sandwich shop that elevates dishes, including my favorite, the shrimp po boy.
Whenever I'm on the Westside, I always have to stop by Star Provisions. The sandwiches here are all delicious (especially their Reuben or Shrimp Po'boy), the little shop inside is cute and fun, but the REAL winner here is their vast bakery. Cookies & croissants are my favorite-but their Smores and Fresh fig cupcakes are the showstoppers here
This place never seems to disappoint a customer! They have these amazing sandwiches that are always perfect for lunch and breakfast. Great place to go to and relax!
An all-in-one market for the food obsessed. – In Short
Star Provisions is Atlanta’s market and specialty shop for the gourmand. It’s a place where you drop down your black Amex for things like imported tea pots or $100 bottles of vinegar. While not everyone is going to be able to afford luxury kitchen items on a regular basis, their food is worthy of a visit, no matter the budget. Anchoring the bustling West Midtown area, Star Provisions is a sort of culinary basics dream store: their in-house bakery, cheese, meat and seafood shops are as friendly as they are excellent, and their house-cured charcuterie will be an instant hit at any dinner party. And if shopping here couldn’t get any better, their lunch counter produces some of the best sandwiches and gourmet-to-go in Atlanta. Did we mention it’s the people that run Bacchanalia? So yeah, it’s good.
Crazy-good sandwiches... and everything else. – Star Provisions has all kinds of awesome goodies... rooms dedicated to meats, cheese, and fancy kitchen appliances. In another room there's a deli counter where they dish out fancy sandwiches and gourmet to go. I've never had their fried chicken or their pizza, but their sandwiches are fantastic. If they don't have it on the menu, ask about the bahn mi sandwich, the chocked Vietnamese tradition that stuffs pork and pickled veggies into a french baguette. Heaven. As was the French-Italian inspired prosciutto, sweet butter and parmesan on fresh baked bread. Never had the shrimp po-boy, but I've heard nothing but rave reviews from my foodie friends.
pricey, but nice – They have good sales and some really cute gift items but not if you aren't looking to spend too much on someone.
For out-of-the ordinary ingredients and fancy housewares – If you're looking for Himalayan red salt, foie-gras stuffed hamburgers, boutique olive oil and retro candies, look no further. This gourmet food store-slash-housewares store is Atlanta's best source for specialty foods and ingredients. There's also a large selection of beautiful tabletop items and giftware, all of which are rather expensive, but very special and unique. The meat, cheese and fish counters have a gorgeous selection (again, on the pricey side), and the bakery sells beautiful sweets. There's a tiny alcove in the front where a local farmer sells his produce certain days of the week.
Gourmet Convenience – Star provisions is like going into the ultimate convenience store. The gourmet goodies are top notch. It is a great place to pick up a picnic or special home dinner.
Five Stars for Porchetta! – I wish I could give six stars, but the Porchetta's worth living until the age of 134 for. Make sure you ask your server Chef Biderman made the Porchetta first, then go for his NOLA-styled specialties!
Great lunch escape – This is one of my favorite places.
I've ordered something different every time, and each meal is better than the last. There is limited space to order, but the staff keeps things moving. While waiting for the food to be prepared, you can browse through all the goodies in Star Provisions. The selection of meats, fish, breads, and cheeses makes it easy to be inspired to make a delicious dinner.
The outdoor seating is a perfect escape; if you sit in the front, the parking lot chaos can be quite entertaining- however if you sit on the back balcony, the feeling is of a calm yet industrial courtyard.
Finally, the staff is wonderful. One time, I accidentially left my purse at the table and a staff member noticed and quickly took it inside behind the cash register. Definitely a caring and concious attitude that I appreciate in a good restaurant. I will be back every week!
Best New Orlean's Style Sandwiche's In ATL! Excellent Takeaway Goodies Also! – We were bored about where to go for lunch today, and thought we would just run over to Howell Mill Rd. and get a few taco's at Taq del Sol, but went into Star Provisions to look around, and wait for the lines to go down. And I'm glad we did. This take-a-way gourmet shop makes some of the best sandwiches outside the Big Easy. The Muffuletta is only second to Central Grocery in N.O. The olive tepanade had the right amount of tang, with the melted cheese. A close second is the Shrimp Po'Boy, with homemde tartare sauce. The french bread was crusty and warm. And of course we had to get an assortment of prepared salads to take home, with the Artichoke being our favorite. This is not New Orleans, but it is a heck of alot closer!
West Midtown food and gift shop woos rich gourmands. – The Scene
Owned by the folks behind Bacchanalia and Floataway Cafe, Star sells the gourmet grocery experience in a way that sets a new standard for sexiness. Still, unless you've got money to burn, you'll see it as little more than a place to stretch your legs after lunch at neighboring Taqueria Del Sol.
There's a distant chance you'll spot a cool hostess gift or the ideal wedding present for your very, very best friend. But in general, you'll find imported sushi sets, A-grade foie gras and $100 bottles of vinegar. There's that pineapple tarte Tatin you fell in love with at Floataway. Berry-red ahi tuna cries out for a hot charcoal fire. The cheese shop with more than 200 kinds is an absolute dream. Over on Aisle 6, an impromptu wine tasting might break out. Drop by on Saturday for the full effect.
