Fun Place, Great Food – Buca is like no place I have ever dined before (and it's not just because of the HUGE portions). You start out on a tour through the restaurant that begins in the kitchen! While it's a little unorthodox I find comfort in the fact that if they allow people to walk through it, the kitchen must be clean. There's a table directly in the kitchen that can be reserved so you can watch all the action. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The food is delicious and there is plenty of it to go around so bring a friend or two or twenty. I highly recommend the chicken cannelloni, the tortelloni, and the chicken saltimbocca. I will definitely be going back to this place again and again.

fun place! – The food at Buca is amazing... if you order the right things! I mean, everything is delicious in its own way, but these are their best items: chicken saltimbocca, chicken marsala, eggplant parmigiana, chicken parmigiana, linguini frutti di mare, tortelloni, mannicotti, chicken cannelloni, penne cardinale (not on the menu, but they will still make), pizza angelo, salmon w/ pesto, and fettucine supremo. The salads are all great. And for dessert, try the new chocolate hazelnut mousse cannolis, yum! Also, to the reviewer below me, just because there are open tables doesn't mean there shouldn't be a wait. I don't know what time you came in, but if it was a late lunch, I'm guessing you mean between 3 and 5. Well, there was probably only 1 or 2 servers there, and at Buca a server can only have 22 guests max that they are waiting on at one time. It's like that at most restaurants, it ensures that the service they give is great and not frantic. Also, the cannolis are not pre-filled! Oh and ask for a table next time, so you dont have to deal with booth problems.

Average Food, Silly Ambiance – Visited for a late lunch on 5-5-07. There were several parking spaces and no one waiting in the foyer, indicating quick seating. However, the host informed us that there would be a 25 minute wait. And he was right! While being taken to our booth (following a strange path through the kitchen) we noticed several empty seats and booths. So why the danged wait?!

Before talking about the food, I need to mention the booths. They have a grungy, sticky feel to them. Also, they are flimsy. Sharing my booth bench seat was a couple seated directly behind me. I felt every bump from them as they adjusted their positions on their side of the bench. It was like being in a movie theater or an airplane with a fidgety kid kicking the back of your seat!

We started with mozzarella garlic bread and a side of marinara. The bread was very good and the sauce was quite tasty. For our main course I had the lasagne while my wife had the eggplant parm. Nothing special here. More of the same sauce over standard nondescript lasagna. The eggplant was nice and crisp, though.

For desert we shared a small platter of 3 cannolis sitting in a chocolate sauce. They were pretty good and the chocolate sauce was great, but it was obvious that the cannoli shells were pre-filled, as they were somewhat limp instead of being crispy (as they should be.)

All told, between the long wait (for no apparent reason) and the average food I'd recommend Bucca only for someone that wants to try something different. But there are MUCH better Italian restaurants in Austin!

Family style Italian! – Buca is one of my favorite group dining places in all of Austin. To go to Buca and fully appreciate the food there, I recommend going there with a large group of 5 or more people! Their portions are EXTREMELY large and at a great price too! Remember not to order as if the food was served per individual, otherwise you will get much more than you bargained for! Not only will you enjoy the food and staff, but you will also enjoy the humorous decorum that can easily fill up any silences in coversation! For an especially fun time at Buca with a large group, I recommend asking for the Pope Room! The Pope Room is a large circular table/room that allow you to talk to the person directly across from you by the bouncing of sound off the walls/ceilings! And if you aren't completely filled up after you entrees, I recommend getting the desserts that they have like some good canoli or tiramasu! The only thing I have left to say about this place is "YumMMMmmmmm... *BURP*"

birthday dinners! – if you are looking for a great place with famiiar food for a celebratory event, definitely check out this place. everything is served family style so people can try multiple dishes. the wine flows liberally and the food is executed well. plan on staying for at least two hours. great pasta and chicken marsala. desserts are great too, especially since everyone "just wants a bite"

For The Great Time That You Were Least Expecting – Alright... walk in the door and you are immediately bombarded with the ostentatiousness of the decor. Take on having a sense of humor while you're there and look around, you'll never be at a loss for self-entertainment. We came on a slightly busy night, but we never lacked for service. We were sat fairly quickly and our server was amazing! Zak, was our server and the guys knows his stuff. He's definitely someone to hang out with for dinner. I asked for lime and I got a whole lime sliced. Had the house Chianti and I really enjoyed. It wasn't too dry and a great compliment to the Quattro Al Forno that we shared. The food was delicious. I'm not sure I ever had so much fun eating pasta. I was pleasantly surprised to see the manager came to our table more than once to see how we were doing. I had my children with me and they were completely entertained by Zak who spoke to them and made sure they had everything that they needed or desired. They ate off the childrens menu and cleaned their plates.

The atmosphere was wonderful. I shared a tiramisu that was the best one I have ever eaten, and thats saying something because I love Italian cuisine. The food was fabulous!

The management and staff were wonderful. Our server was incredible. I'm not easily impressed with wait staff or their customer service normally, but I was IMPRESSED.

Having out of town friends? Bring them there! Never Been? Go! It's absolutely worth it. I give it a 10!

Tasty stuff ! – I ordered the sampler - quattro al foirno , manicotti , lasanga, etc.. plus the fried mozzerella , and bread ... it was good , the sauce especially was yummy and the ingredients seemed very fresh. I have only ordered take out , but the restaurant seems like very cozy place, and nice people. .. had some difficult re-ordering the first person I spoke with didn't know about this option...I like the location central

Average ... thats all – It is a fun idea but overall the experience is average. It is good for groups unless you need to set a menu ... then it becomes overpriced. The food was about the same quality as any other chain italian food place. The themed rooms are kinda fun but get old if you go there more than once.

not good for picky eaters or kosher! – I went there w/ a large group of people, all adults, amongst whom were a couple of guys with picky palates. We had to get a lot of food so that everyone could have something they liked, PLUS, I can't eat pork-- i'm not Jewish, just allergic. Everything had pork! All the meatstuff-- spagetti, meat manicotti, meatballs were mixed beef and pork, and the potatoes had bacon.... I was stuck eating cheese ravioli... oi the bloating! and the spicing involved is very bland. nothing very exciting. it was comfortable, though, and cute. would only reccomend if your party had similar palates.
