Childhood favorites and fancier fare served in a cozy environment.. The Scene Brick walls with dramatic paintings bounce convivial chatter from the bar over to a dozen tables set with fresh flowers. The room is dark, with candles adding a soft glow from each table. The service is attentive and well-paced.
The Food The menu is an interesting mix of dishes that often include childhood favorites. Options include homey items like French onion soup gratinee, creamed corn, macaroni and cheese, and meatloaf. Chicken and shiitake mushrooms are tossed with linguini. The Reuben dip comes in a ramekin with homemade rye crackers; it looks like someone ran a Reuben sandwich through a blender, but it's tasty and serves two. While the chef likes salt, the food is pleasant and comes with bread from the in-house bakery. The wine list offers few unusual choices, but many bottles are under $20.
