“My friend didn't like her drink and he doctored it up with no attitude.”
“Moe's would be a much more enjoyable bar if they could improve on their selection of beer.”
“great place to chill and have drinks”
“And the lovely bartender Kimberly whips up awesome Margaritas.”
“agree it does get crowded and the service will slow down a bit due to the lack of bartenders but that just gives you a chance to go outside and get some air, or smoke a cigarette and meet cool people while things hash out inside.”
Yawn. Great place on weekends if you like over-crowded and, if you're a girl, being super aggressively hounded by drunken meatheads. Jukebox is good, but aforementioned drunken meatheads will put on repeat any tuneage they're famiiar with. (Jane Says, anyone?) Then you've got the wannabe scenester contingent fighting the meatheads for jukebox time. Curt, unfriendly bartenders, too. Why, I have no idea. The bar's lame.
An energetic watering hole reflects its neighborhood's vitality..
The Scene
Brooklyn's Fort Greene continues to flex its hip muscle with Moe's, a vibrant nightspot on relatively quiet Lafayette Avenue. Colored squares of light over the curved bar, nifty vintage furniture sets--including a vibrating chair--and myriad votive candles decorate the bi-level space (formerly a tailor's shop). A young, racially and sexually diverse crowd enjoys the legroom of happy hour, then grows to pack the place till closing time.
The Draw
There's an unavoidable, if mercifully understated, "The Simpsons" theme here, with a portrait of bartender Moe in one of the unisex bathrooms, a stiff pyrotechnic shot called the "Flaming Mo" topping the drink list, and a beer tap labeled "Duff" (attention Miller Brewing Company: It's actually MGD). But happily, the patrons are a lot more appealing than Homer and Barney.
Great Bar in a Great Hood. This might be my favorite bar in Brooklyn. It's relaxed without being drowsy, fun without being out of control, and a truly mixed crowd. Everyone I've brought to this bar loves it Hip without being painfully so, which is nice. And the frozen mojitos rule.
A great neighborhood bar. I'm glad to have a decent neighborhood bar to hang out at. Wish it wasn't so overcrowded (mainly on weekends), and the music is usually lackluster (or way too loud if there's a DJ). But overall, Moe's is usually a good time. I'm glad to know the place is women-owned. And the lovely bartender Kimberly whips up awesome Margaritas.
a great place to chill and have drinks. Moe's is great. I went there on Saturday with some friends and had a fabulous time. The crowd is friendly, the bartender is quick and eager to please. My friend didn't like her drink and he doctored it up with no attitude. The music is eclectic, just like the crowd. Overall, a place with no attitude where you're guaranteed a fun time with cheap drinks.
Great neighborhood spot. Love the drinks, jukebox and bartenders, esp. Kimberly. A great time is always had at Moe's!
NASTY. RUDE bouncer, bartenders and the little manager girl was worst of all. We spent a fair amount of $ there. Our group accounted for a few hundred dollars on a slow night for them. You'd think they would have been friendlier. The staff was very pretentious, especially for a rundown-looking bar in an unpretentious neighborhood. I was UN-pleasantly surprised.
Good Times. Not only one of the coolest, most unpretentious spots in Brooklyn, Moe's is undeniably one of the best bars in all of New York City. Friendly and eclectic crowd mixed with flawless service and consistently great music. Fort Greene loves Moe's, and you will too!
Finally in Fort Greene. Despite its central location, Fort Greene has a surprising lack of bars and hang-out spots. Moe's is a welcome addition -- the staff is great, although there can be a wait for service when the bar is crowded on weekend nights. I prefer Moe's for weekday evenings, or early on the weekends. The lounge set-up seems much more pleasant for conversation when the place isn't packed to the rafters. When there is a DJ, the music drowns out any conversation at all.
eclectic crowd: please better beer!. Moe's would be a much more enjoyable bar if they could improve on their selection of beer.
