Potential to be excellent – Speaking of the location on McCullough:
First the person above is wrong. Fruit is always extra and Im sure it is at Jims/Dennys as well.
There is NO comparing this to Jims/Dennys. This place is in seperate class and the increased cost is reflected in the quality.
Dennys is the mcdonalds of breakfast. Jims is actually pretty good but going in the direction of dennys.
Back to Lighthouse.
Sitting outside is always a treat. Its amazing that in Texas where our best quality is weather 9 months of the year every restaurant doesnt have a giant deck or roof that opens.
I ordered the half Belgian waffle special with bacon and an egg over easy - coffee as well.
Bacon - excellent - crispy and great flavor.
Egg - excellent - perfectly cooked over easy.
Coffee - excellent - deep brew lots of flavor.
Water - excellent - lime in - nicely done its amazing what a slice of citrus will do.
Waffle - cold. (no butter)
Waffles get cold fast and should be brought out immediately.
I was asked how everything was when I was 90% done. It was my only meal of the day so of course I had eaten most of it by that time.
In their defense it was very slow and when its very slow ironically things can be missed more so than when things are busy.
After the inital late check in I overheard management pushing the waitress to check back so they care.
In the end I was ecstatic to encounter breakfast served on par with the quality I had found in breakfast nooks in Chicago. Ill go back.
Refreshing Place to Eat – If you are looking for a nice out of the ordinary place to have breakfast or lunch, the Lighthouse Cafe is for you. The service has been very friendly and attentive both times I've been there. The food is obviously homemade and delicious. Want to substitute? No problem... Its an excellent place to have a quiet lunch with a friend, or bring a book and read. No book? They have a small selection in the back. Food is terrific!
very bad experience – My husband ordered eggs and bacon and was charged for toast! I ordered Belgian waffles extra for the microwaved berries (not in syrup) extra for the whipped creme so $8.20 for the waffle! that is like charging extra for onions and tomatoes on your hamburger.
Ordered coffee and had to wait till I almost finished eating (thermos were empty.Their coffee is good!
Not going back. We get better treatment at Jims and Denny's and for 1/2 of the price. Our total was $20.98 for a very poor breakfast. Remember Belgian waffles come with fruit and whipped cream that's why they have pockets and American waffles are served with syrup and butter.
Worst experience I have ever had!!! – LOCATION AT OLMOS PARK!!! I have never been this grossed out while trying to eat a nice lunch on a Sunday afternoon. My husband and I took my 8 month pregnant twin sister and her husband to lunch before they had to head back to Austin. We were all enjoying ourselves until my sister almost threw up all over the table. She could barely speak the words as she was holding her mouth to try and avoid spewing the small amount of food she unfortunately had already ingested. As we all hovered over to check what was on her plate, we were all so shocked to witness a completely drenched BEE that seemed like it has been swimming in the dressing for a couple of hours before it ended up on her plate. We sat there waiting for the manager to finally come out and apologize but never happened. We were going to try and just forget about the whole experience and get the h-ll out of there until my sister took a sip of her water and found a hair that was clearly not any of ours. That completely put us over the edge. My husband decided to go tell the manager what happened and she not only didn't apologize, she basically blew him off and believe it or not, the waitress said 'it could have been worse.' What a horrible experience!!!
Awesome Eat for Soul & Tummy – Love it. Great for kids, awesome food, super-nice staff and really, really good music. Mind you, this has quickly become THE hot spot for San Antonio's Christian music scene. Music-lovers of any creed would do well to stop by and get a sample of the tasty licks and poetry found here on week-end nights. The rest should at leats come for the food and great atmosphere. A truly uplifting spot with a lot of soul and plenty of treats.
My expectations were to be "snacking" at a little coffe place. I was wrong. Not only did they have excellent coffees, but an extravaganza of great wraps, sandwiches, pitas and entree's. Oh save room for dessert. The service was good too as my waiter (Chris?) greeted me with a smile and a good personality. it was well worth it.
