best place to go if you want a short haircut – I'm attempting to grow my hair long. However, my neck needed serious cleanup, and the back hair was beginning to flip. So I went in and asked for a neck trim and for Jim to cut just a brief smidgen off of the back hair. He proceeded to cut my hair really short. Admittedly, the haircut is the best damn short haircut I've ever had. If I had gone in asking for a short hair cut, Jim's Barber Shop would have received 5 stars. However, considering that I asked for something completely different, mainly for my hair to be kept long, and he didn't listen to my request -- well, that's why Jim just gets 3 stars.
Side comment: most of the barbers in Capitol Hill charge $10 for crew cuts and ~$20 for styled cuts. Yet most of the places aren't very good at styled cuts. Weird, eh?
Regardless, if you want a good short hair cut, go to Jim's.
It's not about the cut, but the candor at this long standing Capitol Hill shop. – In Short
Owner Jim Nicholson will tell you his shop "looks just like it always did." It's a small, faux-wood paneled barber shop with assorted magazines for your perusal (including Playboy), two chairs and two barbers. Nicholson, who has been in the business for 36 years, runs the place with his step-son Tim. His clientele dates back to his early days as a barber, which explains the friendly banter that ensues with each client that enters the shop.
