One of the better dim sum places... – I come to Ocean Palace on the weekend afternoon for dim sum. The very large room on the upstairs level, which doubles as a banquet hall for weddings at night, is spacious enough to accommodate large parties (think large Asian families) and small. The dim sum is pretty good but on the expensive side. The har gow (shrimp dumplings) are $4.95 and the chinese broccolli is also $4.95, a bit high in my opinion. But their staple Xiu Mai dumpling, my fave, is only $2.95 and they taste just like in Hong Kong.

Awful.. – I usually never complain about any Asian type of food as long as it taste fine, its decent and as long as I can eat it.. BUT I must say, first time I ever tried this place, I ordered the egg rolls and their fried rice and it tasted AWFUL. I couldn't even chew on those eggrolls because it tasted funny and felt funny in my mouth! I couldn't stand it.. service was okay... but they are a bit slow too =/

Very Nice Atmosphere and Great Dim Sum – I took my husband for our anniversary today to this restaurant. We had a wonderful time. The Dim Sum was very tasty especially the egg plant. The atmosphere was very nice. This is a place to take your time to go and eat and have good conversation. We will go back!!!

Nice fish tanks – By far the worst meal I have ever eaten (and I've been to England).

Being new to Houston I wanted to try some authentic asian food. I could Ignore the bad service but not the foul tasting food. Seriously, if you can?t get a good Chinese meal in Asia town?. I should have known better when I went into the restaurant and there were no Asian people eating there.

I went back to work on Monday and told my asian co-workers where I went for lunch on the weekend and they laughed at me.

The fish tanks were pretty though.

Enjoy

Beware of the shark fin soup – We love this restaurant for dim sum on Sundays. However, please do not support the purchase of shark fin soup. The manager has noted that this restaurant only serves real shark fin soup - no imitations. Sharks are being decimated throughout the oceans to meet the demands of Asian restaurants serving shark fin soup. This "delicacy" is creating endangered species. Stick to the wonton or egg drop.

A typical Asian experience in North America – You must understand the idiosyncricies of an Asian establishment outside Asia. If you are Caucasian and cannot handle being in a foreign setting, you will be put off by the "poor" service. If you have never been to an establishment in one of the larger Chinatowns in North America you will not understand the personality of an Asian outside their homeland. For me, this was a bit of a comfort food place even though it is large and a bit institutional feeling. No, the food is not quite what you would get in China. But, it is not what you get on a typical Chinese buffet aimed at people looking for quantity instead of quality. It was decent and you can certainly choose the things you want after being able to see what it looks like. Overall this is a decent experience.

Not very Authentic – The only thing I liked was the Phoneix feet. It was made very well, except the taste could use a little more seasoning. Everything else was not good. Had to go to a line to get dim sum for some of the stuff. Some of the stuff was pretty bad and it left a bad taste in our mouths. Service was ok, but when it got busy, very little to no service. Some of the cart people just passes by and not even ask if we wanted anything (particularly one of two ladies). I'm thinking, do they want us to order or what? Will never eat there or take anyone there again.

Too much OIL and MSG – This place is nasty and it has a lot of oil and msg. I get thirsty so fast, i end up drinking like 5 cups of water within 10 minutes after i ate. I went there with a group of friends and we just wanted to try different restaurants in bellaire. i could not believe we went there. I mean service is not good at all and the food is messy. Also, I have to get up and walk to the waiter to ask for more water.

Ocean Palace gives f o o d p o i s o n i n g !!!! – My boyfriend and I went to Ocean Palace for dim sum on Sunday morning. 4 Hours later, my boyfriend started having symptoms of food p o i s o n i n g and was hospitalized. they said it was food p o i s o n i n g....from what kind of bacteria, we dont know yet. But it was definitely from something he ate at this dump. now we know that we will never come back to this place, and so will our friends.

For fresh dim sum and then some, visit this palatial Chinatown spot. – The Scene
It's rather grand, this two-story palace with a sweeping entrance overlooking the Hong Kong City Mall's lily pad pond with fountains. Inside, expect tidy banquet-style decor with oceans of chattering Chinese patrons and a handful of Caucasians attempting to dim sum or succumbing to the buffet.

The Food
Dim sum is served daily, but Sunday's is the big draw, with crème de la crème choices: peppered shrimp, roast duck, black bean clams, Chinese broccoli, steamed pork dumplings and custard tartlets. If you don't fancy the pace of dim sum or guessing and pointing from rolling carts, a comprehensive menu awaits. Standards like kung pao chicken, Szechuan shrimp and Singapore vermicelli satisfy, but the weekend dim sum experience is matchless.

Dim Sum restaurant with many varieties – Great egg tart and the steam rice noodle with fried bread inside. Other Dim Sums are so so. Stir Fried Udon or Rice noodle are also good
