As much a bar as a hangout, the Basement Pub is a meeting place for after work get-togethers and light dinners. The Basement wisely pairs drinking with popular pastimes such as cribbage, pinball and board games taking the awkward ice-breakers out of get-to-know-you conversations.

Bad service – I've been coming to this place for years, but likely won't go back. The service has finally gotten to me. It's consistently poor, but tonight was an all time low. Oh well. Plenty of better places without the bad attitude coming from behind the bar. The food is pretty bad too, so it's no real loss.

Hangin' in the basement again for sure! – Was int town from tacoma, looking fro a non pretentious, fun, dive bar my fiancee, a friend fo orus and I could go to , be relaxed, have some inexpensive drinks and enjoy a good evening.

We found the Basement pub on Citysearch, sounded like our kind of place so we went.

We were FAR from disappointed, had a great time, the owner purchased us some drinks, the bar is just as it is billed, like your friends rec room.

I got to watch my Pats beat the Giants on their TV then relaxedo n the old comfy couches while I enjoyed Hamms & played some Pac Man.

Point being this was an awesome place, I will be bacl again for sure and have recommended it to all my friends who go to or through Portland.

Great bar to meet people at for a beer. – Cool place to lounge that might as well be a friend's house...too small to have a bunch of idiotic drunks in and they only serve beer.

Cool style and a worth bar to check out if you haven't yet.

Get rid of your attitude, Portland... – My friends and I have frequented this pub on Sunday nights for the last few months. I used to think it was a gem. However, last night the service was so terrible that I won't go back. The women bartenders seem to be pretty good at this place but the guy... total Portland hipster who can't take the time to be bothered with pouring you a drink. My friend and I waited and waited, watching him do anything else possible but get us our beers. Finally he looked up at us and I told him what I wanted but he actually served the people behind us first. Yeah. It was ridiculous. As a Portland native, this type of thing is exactly what I'm beginning to hate about this city. There are many other places to go on a Sunday night.

Cheap libations and a well-stocked jukebox fuel a grungy, raucous, yet friendly vibe. – The Scene
Replete with a fish tank, the old-school arcade game Asteroids and a cache of tattered Encyclopedia Americas, the Basement Pub feels like your best friend's rec room. Open since 2001, it has quickly established itself as a neighborhood hangout and a pickup scene for the Hawthorne set.

The Draw
It's all about value at the Basement--fitting, since it was formerly a convenience mart. Pabst and Hamms go for $1.75 a pop and microbrews are $3.25; a few basic wines are available for $3 to $4. Small, dark and low-ceilinged all around, flattering candlelight flickers in an alcove set off from the main room, rendering it a prime spot for a romance or a heart-to-heart with a good pal. The Clash and AC/DC wailing from a decent juke and a bookshelf crammed with board games ensure entertainment.

Great fun palce – Simple and sweet little beer pub. Fun and good times to be had. Good pinball and a real nice fish tank! Great place to meet up with friends or find new ones.

great little neighborhood joint – what a great little pub... relaxed unpretentious yet still hip kids hanging out and having a pint and playing pinball while a great juke box played sweet tunes. and some of the best beer prices around.
