Two creative forces share one home in a cooperative
coalition..
Two In One
The experimental collectives Collapsable Giraffe and Radiohole came together under one roof in late 2000 when they signed a 10-year lease on a 1000 square-foot garage. The newly renovated theater, which seats 65, opened in February 2001 and is overseen by all seven founding artists--four from Giraffe and three from Radiohole.
What Computes
The pairing of Giraffe and Radio is natural, given their shared esthetics--made most apparent in their venue opening collaboration "Bend Your Mind Off" (2001). Yet, while both troupes employ computer monitors and video in their work, they distinguish themselves from each other in cast size: Radiohole generally tailors shows to company members; Collapsable Giraffe employs a plethora of performers. FYI: Brooklyn's Performing Garage is available as a rental. With its removable wooden benches, and cozy, sweaty atmosphere, this joint suits rock bands and late-night revelers just as well.
