worthy a review – I decided to get a "no-chip manicure" after my girlfriend raved about getting hers at Studio. My appt was booked with Martine & I am so pleased with my experience! Not only did she explain the procedure; lenght of time it'll last but how to care for my nails during & after. This girl is a true professional in her craftt & immediately puts you at ease! The results were better than I expected. It's been a lil' over 10 days & I stil have amazing shine & no chip (lol) guess that's why they call it that. The salon itself is cute; staff is friendly & I have to admit I loved the people watching while getting my nails done! Btw, this place MUST be doing really well considering the remodeling taking place on the 2nd fl & the number of people checking in & out! I'll definately BE BACK w/ Martine & am really considering trying someone there for my hair!
This place ROCKS!!! – Being in medical esthetics, and a local resident for over a decade... I have had a lot of experiences in the neighborhood hair salons. What's more, before I started going to Studio 110, I was certain my hair was possessed by the Devil. The staff at this salon are truly miracle workers. Additionally, they are obviously happy in their work environment and it shows. They are team players that create an ambiance of positive energy and you feel and look awesome when you are stepping out with your new "do." Cristina, the owner, is a creative genius and perfectionist who is develops great rapports with everyone she greets at the salon. Her vision has rubbed off on her staff . I've had most services from Heather, Tina, and Bethany, and I have referred people to them. As far as I am concerned, these people can do no wrong.
Grow your own hair the natural way. – Dear Reader I had a long standing relationship with Studio 110 and even though there were times I was disappointed with services I would return because I like the staff and the salon always welcomed my dog. I have decided never to return to this salon based on some very poor judgment and lack of integrity by a head stylist who works with hair extensions. Two years ago I decided to go platinum blonde and over time my hair was breaking off and another stylist decided to cut my hair into a pointy v long in the back and short at the front. I got tired of growing out the layers and asked Anna Jackson if my hair could handle hair extensions. She wildly agreed and even though my hair was very long in back she ordered four bundles of hair and insisted I needed to cover all my own hair with great length so the look would be natural. I let her do the work and it cost me a total of $1600 or more but it looked nice. She urged me to wait 4 to 5 months even though other stylists from the internet suggest no more than 3 months or you will see damage to your own hair. After 5 months and her removal I noticed my own head of hair was considerably thinner in texture but Anna stated that we shed a lot of hair per day and this was normal. I was embarrassed looking like I had such a wreck of hair so I asked if I could have more extensions soon. She said pinch braids would be less damaging and less expensive. She told me to buy a certain brand of hair and see her the next day. The process of pinch braiding was very painful on my scalp and it took her six hours. No one ordered any food so you can imagine how aggravating and painful it was. When it was finally finished I was grateful to Anna that she dropped me off but my scalp ached the whole night and I had headaches for a week. I finally got used to the pain worried about my own hair falling off but Anna insisted this was normal and braids had to be tight. After two months I lost a lot of braids and Anna agreed to braid more hair in using Great lengths hair so I would have an easier time brushing the hair out. By August I finally had my pinch braids removed by a NY salon and I was horrified to see most of my fine curly hair had been ripped and shredded. I had never seen so much breakage and I would never recommend pinch braids to anyone with fine, curly chemically bleached hair. I would have thought that some one as experienced as Anna J would never have taken such a risk with my hair but maybe she just saw dollars signs and not a client who needed proper care. When I called Studio 110 to let them know what happened the manager would not call me back nor would Anna J. Each time I called to ask for a return call or an explanation a receptionist would inform me they were on vacation. I called one last time and the receptionist mentioned I had signed a waiver so therefore the salon was not responsible. My feelings were terribly hurt since I had been such a loyal customer. I used to go to this salon once a week for deep conditioning treatments and color. I even visited Studio 110 even after moving out of the city of Chicago. If this is the way they can treat a loyal customer just imagine how little protection you as a consumer will have should you decide to purchase hair extensions for fun. Hair extensions will always lead to damage depending upon the condition of your own hair and texture. If you have bleached your hair never use hair extensions because you will just end up shredding your already fragile hair and Studio 110 will not be liable for damages.
Super salon – i have been going to Salon 110 for two years. The staff is super friendly and not your typical snooty gold coast salon. i am always greeted warmly - like a family member. i love my haircuts by marissa - she cuts with such precision and and farrah, my colorist, is always consistent. all three of us chat before i have anything done so we're all on the same page. and i never feel pressured to buy product! i get compliments on my hair everywhere i go. even today, i shared a cab with another woman, and she loved my hair. it made me feel good about myself - what more could you ask for?
Avoid this salon if you don't want a headache! – horrifically loud and the drama Between that, cell phones and the dog friendly atmosphere, it's a total zoo.level of the stylists is through the roof. Stylists more interested in talking to each other than the customers. Find a place that is more professional.
Keara is the Best Hairstylist in Chicago – Keara Duchene is a fantastic, artistic, creative, talented hairstylist. I can't say enough great things about her! She has been cutting and styling my hair for years, and even did all of the girls' hair (including my own) for my wedding last year. Keara's thorough and consistant education allows her to perform ANY hairstyle I'm looking for. Most importantly, she listens to what MY concerns are (along with adding her own opinion as well) to create the BEST hairstyle for my facial structure. Keara also recognizes when I'd like a change in style, and seems to always be on the same page as I am... which makes her the BEST hairstylist I've ever had!!! As another incentive, she offers 50% off to all of her first-time guests, so TAKE ADVANTAGE!!! You won't regret it! :-)
Ella is fantastic – Ella Stauber has been cutting my hair for the past two years and I followed her here from Art and Science to Studio 110. Even when I want to try something new, but I am not totally sure what that is she always comes up with something I just love. I would highly recommend Ella. My wife has also started seeing her and she is always telling me about the compliments she gets.
Kelly is the Best – Throughout all my relocations and experiences with top salons, I have never found one stylist who compares to Kelly Moriarty. Her artistry is unmatched and the salon experience is also a great time - not snooty or pretentious like other Gold Coast salons, but still high-end. I refer everyone I know, and they all agree. A Kelly cut will change your life.
high energy upscale salon – Great experience w/kelly moriarty the hairstylist. She gave me a the best haircut ever and is easy to talk to and fun. Liked being at kelly's station, by the window, great people watching on Delaware.
high price – this place is so convenient (i practically live upstairs) , but it's over priced for the poor standard of work and has an atmosphere that's like my mums beauty parlour. doesn't any chicago salon train and develop staff anymore ? all the salons just seem to hire whoevers been fired from the salon around the corner . go to a bad stylist at one place and a couple of months later they show up at the next place you try . don't they have to pass some kind of a test or do an apprenticeship or something ? surely being loud and camp isn't the only prerequisite . after listening to the girl who cut my hair complain about her previous employer for an hour , i could have saved her the job , because i was ready to rip my own hair out . the gold coast used to have great salons and skilled well trained stylists , not just expensive ones , what happened ?
