Historical but expensive – This small, beautiful bar has a long history which it makes it worth a visit. However, I won't be back. Five dollars for a domestic beer on a Sunday afternoon is simply taking advantage of your customers.

Stiff drinks – If you're a local to the city, I would not recommend this bar. Maybe for some drinks after work and to unwind. Of course a lot of tourists in the bar, seemed to uptight. The only good thing I'd have to say about this place is the drinks we're great. If you like your drinks strong, this is the place. So, if you happen to be attending a wedding reception at this hotel, drop by for a drink.

A replica of the House of Lords Pub in London, the Alamo's next-door neighbor oozes history and quiet sophistication. – The Scene
If you enter from the street (rather than from Menger Hotel), you'll be greeted by a huge moose head. Early photos of the Alamo and Teddy Roosevelt, who once recruited his Rough Riders here, line the dark-cherrywood walls of this small, dignified drinking establishment built in 1887. Glass cabinets and ornate woodwork behind the bar suggest a long-forgotten time when craftsmanship mattered. The tourist crowd gives way to locals in search of intimate conversation and a nightcap around 10pm most nights.

The Draw
An air of importance permeates the space. So much history has happened here that you can't help feeling that if you wait around long enough, something big might happen. Then again, you might be seeing ghosts, which are rumored to inhabit the hotel in droves. In addition to the sense of timelessness, customers can expect attentive service, stiff drinks, affable regulars and excellent food.

A look into the past. – San Antonio is one of the oldest cities in the US and this bar is a direct link to it's past. Photographs of old San Antonio adorn the walls, the light fixtures are all gas converted to electric, and old style Edison lightbulbs are even used for authenticity. The woodwork of the bar is absolutely phenomenal.

It's awe inspiring to think of all the souls that have passed through the doors over the last 117 years - how many conversations have taken place at the very table you are sitting at. I am somewhat of a history buff so this place is really a thrill for me. It's amazing that it still exists and the fact that it remains virtually UNCHANGED makes it a treasure.

Any one who visits or resides in San Antonio should visit this bar at least once.
