Amazing boutique – Store looked intimidating but staff are quite friendly and accomodating. Loved the many brands and the Frank Gehry space! Quite impressive.
Japanese conceptualist stitches up a storm at his Tribeca flagship--with help from Frank Gehry. – Serious shoppers and curious art buffs alike wander wide-eyed into Frank Gehry's first downtown New York commission: A monstrous, titanium tornado swirling through a two-story, 3,000 square-foot boutique. From the high, wood-beamed ceilings to the clear walkways set into the floor, the sprawling space is pure Gehry. Light-as-air garments heavy on the texture hang from a zig-zag of garment racks with oversized wheels. Men's and women's collections, sometimes indistinguishable, commingle on the main floor. Downstairs, a staff person explains Miyake's a-poc ("A Piece of Cloth") line: Several garments can be made from a single piece of cloth--you choose your design and go to it with scissors, following the dotted lines.
