Le Zinc is everyone's favorite neighborhood French restaurant. They do the classics very well, but the real reason to go is their lovely and relaxing brunch, inside or out on their tiny, sun-dappled patio. There are all sorts of egg dishes you're not likely to find elsewhere, and a tasy Algerian pastry called Brik which is as tasty as it is unique.
Horrible customer service – I've been here twice. The first time was two years ago when it was unimpressive. Last Friday, my husband and another couple went and were horrified with their service.
1) We had a reservation for 8pm and they didn't seat us until 8:40pm. The hostess didn't acknowledge us until we looked for her. Then, she disappeared for twenty minutes to the back. When we waited at the bar, she told us that we were in the way and escorted us to the cold and cramped front door area.
2) We ordered a bottle of wine on the list as a 2002. What they gave us was a 2004. When my hubby brought this to their attention, the waiter asked, "Is this a problem?" I asked, "Are you charging the same price?" He said "Yes, because the distributor is charging us for the same price."
The food was good the second time we went, but the service really got in the way of our evening out. I recommend that if you want an enjoyable night out, stay away!
Perfect romantic ambiance and great food – I ate here last wednesday and just couldn't stop raving about it the last few days to anyone who would listen. This small, tucked away french bistro in Noe Valley could easily be found in Nice or Bordeaux. The pictures on citysearch really don't give it justice. The inside is very inviting, with it's low candlelight and french decor and music. It's a perfect place to "wow" a date. I loved everything from the wine, the complementary starters, and the food. The service was mediocre, but that was the only downside I found. I highly recommend it.
Great place, good food, AWFUL service. – The interior is simply wonderful. The wine list has character and variety, as does the food. The service was awful. The waiter forgot to bring dishes we ordered, brought us dishes we didn't order, seemed agitated and aloof when we pointed this out, and we kept having to ask for bread. In short, we had salad, then soup, followed by an entree, and then one of the appetizers we ordered. The kicker: there was no pen included in the billfold when it came time to sign the check. That just about sums it up. I brought two of my best friends visiting from out of town here, and while we were all good sports, the management should be embarrassed.
Wonderful ambience and great food – I have been avoiding eating here for years because I was rubbed the wrong way by an experience when they first opened. I finally made it in again for dinner last night and was thrilled. The whole experience was one of the best eating experiences I have had. The 3 course pre-set menu was great (cous cous salad, salmon with vanilla sauce and creme brulee). Very original and tasty! I also enjoyed the wine flights. We came in at 7:45 and they were closing at 8..but we never felt rushed. We will definitely be back. I really wanted to hate the place, but came out feeling it would be one of my favorite places to visit in the future.
Fantastic food and great ambiance! – We had our first experience at Le Zinc this past week and it was simply wonderful. The place was unpretentious but good, from the waitress to the food and to the decor. Overall it was a very pleasant experience and the price was very reasonable. Highly recommended for people who are looking for fresh French food without all of the fuss. It is going on our list of favorite restaurants in the City!
They have the WORST Service Ever!!! – Do Not go to this restaurant. Even though the food is good, the service is atrocious for the price point. I am a hiring manager for a very sucessful catering firm and I know the difference between good and bad service. I have never walked out on a tab, but I was inches from leaving after being ignored by my waitress for over an hour. All me and my friend ordered was 2 glasses of wine, 2 apps, and a salad. Our plan was to order more, but we were starving and wanted to get a few things going before we passed out. Her first excuse was that they don't normally seat on the sidewalk tables at dinner time, which is untrue. There was another table seated there when we arrived. Then, after we sat down another table was sat next to us. After 20 minutes the table next to us was informed that a table in the back patio had opened up and that their food was ready. My companion literally had to go inside and make an "appearance" in order to have our wine brought to the table. I should note that the waitress brough me the wrong wine. Here's a tip if you are a waitress don't lie to your tables about how long it's going to take because you never know who is a colleague and can see through the BS that waiters give their tables when things go wrong. So, our food finally comes out and she started with the salad, which is the wrong sequence in traditional French service, followed by fois gras and pancetta wrapped prawns. How long will it take 2 ladies to eat an ounce of seared fois gras and three prawns - another 30 minutes? Did she offer to take anything off the bill? NO, $60 bucks for horrible service and a snack is not cool!
Great Breakfast place. – Good place for breakfast on the week-ends.
I love the egg dishes and brunch items are great.
Indulge and get the set price item $19.00 you get a whole breakfast.
I come most Saturdays.
Nice place to enjoy your week-end brunch.
It's open all the time – Where else in Noe Valley can you sit outside pretty much any time of day or night and get something tasty to eat? My favorite thing is the wine available by the carafe in the most amazing decanters... Food is average bisro fare. Wish there were a little more innovation or daily specials. As someone who's eaten here over 15 times, (sunny day- sit outside and nosh) I'm worn out from the menu! Still the Niscois (sp) salad is good but ask them to barely sear the tuna or it will be served overcooked. Sit outside! Drink wine! Enjoy!
Good food, good atmosphere – Like another reviewer, I REALLY want to like this place. It's close to home and a perfect spot for a glass of wine and small dishes. We've been there twice now and both times have been extremely unimpressed with the waiter service. We've tried the mussels (great), goat cheese salad (yuck), special dumplings (awesome), escargot (good), pork confit (salty but good). Once we tried the shrimp but deemed them too fishy and returned them. We were pleasently surprised when that item was taken off our bill. The two different waiters we had each time were unattentive even though the restaurant was about more than half empy. Because of the food, I'm sure we'll be back but they could really give some attention to the customer service skills of their wait staff.
YUM!! – I love this restaurant. Great for a romantic date or a good I-love-myself day. Great food. "The best foie gras ever!" and I'm not the only one who has offered up that statement. Great wine selection and LOTS of good to great wines available by the glass! How often does that happen? The asparagus in morell cream sauce is amazing. It is SO good. And it's open ALL day with food and really strong coffee. Did I mention the desserts?
