Delicious, perfect for casual but classy meal with friends – The fries are to die for. They're battered, and amazing. It's obvious that they care about the customers, in the preparation of the food and in service, all the staff is friendly . I would recommend Monteaux's to anyone. :)
pretty yucky, we were disappointed – We went to Monteaux's for my dad's birthday, it was his choice. I'm glad that his food was good, but the rest of our meals were downright yucky. I had the etoufee-it wasn't very good, and was REALLY spicy-I know it's cajun and all, but it was almost inedible, and I can handle some spice. My brother ordered their special- a mexican seafood soup. It WAS supposed to be spicy, but the broth tasted like canned tomato juice with little flavor or spice and the seafood was overwhelmingly fishy. Also, there was a huge pile of rice in his soup-that wasn't supposed to be there, weird. Finally, my husband, on the waitresses' recommendation ordered the BBQ Salmon. We assumed this meant the salmon would be 1. fresh 2. grilled. WRONG-it was a piece of salmon slathered in a load of nasty BBQ sauce. The fish was literally inedible, it was SO fishy--enough to make us think it was near-bad and they were trying to get rid of it before it spoiled (hence the waitress recommendation) So, we sent it back, and my husband ordered meatloaf instead. It took them quite awhile to bring it out, and everyone was already done eating-this is where it gets even worse-his meatloaf was luke warm and not cooked all the way in the middle, and the gravy sauce on top was gross tasting. I'm sorry, maybe it was an off-night for Monteaux's, but the low quality food (and frankly, the service was lacking as well-it took FOREVER to get everything-even our water) I would not go back-ever, not for the food, not for the service and not at these prices. Yucky.
Ordinary, pricey food – Saw the high rating on citysearch... Decided to try it.
We were there during the happy hour (Friday past 9pm) [not by plan]... however we did NOT notice the happy hour menu, which we realized later on was very limited - only has appetizers were listed at about half of the price, and also has some beers (still costly at $4 or so).
We tried buffalo wings, which I generally don't go wrong with. But they made it real salty that it was hard to eat.
Then we had the order of entrees... had
Bad Changes – I use to frequent this restaurant quite often. That is not the case anymore. The last couple of times I have gone the food quality has gone down hill. They changed the menu and I was excited to see and try the new things. They were tasteless. So the last time I ate here I ordered one of the original items thinking it would be the same as it was. Boy was I wrong, it was very bland.
Greetings Bean2323, I am sorry to read your post and would love some feedback on what (and when) you had the items not up to our standards. (My email is at the bottom of this note) We have indeed hired a new chef but our menu changes don't start til the end of this month. Perhaps you will like the new things we are bringing on, quality and variety are very important to us...I hope you will give us another try! Thanks larry@monteauxsdotcom
Good Beaverton Happy Hour – This is a good stop for happy hour with average drink prices (albeit on some very good beer) but excellent food prices and very good selections. The location in a strip mall is less than exceptional, but the interior is quite nice and it is apparent that the owner(s) pay close attention to detail. I prefer dining downtown, however this is one of my favorite places for staying in Beaverton.
Thanks for the review - much appreciated! We celebrate our 9th anniversary on August 29th (live music) and are planning some great things for year 10! larry@monteauxs com
Just average food for an upsce price!" – unlike the other reviewers, we were not overjoyed with the high prices and lack of quality food. Thankfully they had Passport and other discounted programs going through 2008, unfortunately, they did not keep any of these important programs so we doubt it would be worth it to try this place again in this economy
In early 2008 with food costs soaring, it became obvious that it was not worth continuing with the 2 for 1 program, as it would eventually force us to raise ALL prices to recoup some of the lost income. In fact, most places on the Passport program specifically are $20+ per entree; our menu is much more affordable so we cannot absorb a 50% discount in this economy. Instead, we kept prices reasonable and introduced "oomph!" our revolutionary version of happy hour/early bird programs. It is a discount that offers everyone 25% off the entire menu at certain times -- no card, no coupon, no small plates, and no hassles! I am sorry you didn?t enjoy your food, but I do thank you for the feedback. Please give as another look and let us know if something doesn?t meet your expectations - we would love to make it right while you are here.
Amazing Food and Great Prices – This was an amazing find.
I came here with my sister, we love to eat out at locally owned restaurants and it is pretty hard to find places close, but this is definitely one of them.
We took advantage of the amazing Happy Hour, and we both loved it. Getting 25% off all food is an amazing deal.
We were seated right away and the waitress was right at our table to take our drink orders. While the service seemed a little slow for the lack of people in the restaurant, my sister and I love to talk and chat so it wasn't that noticeable.
My sister and I will definitely be coming back.
Another thing that made me eager to try this restaurant was the the owners take the time to reply to reviews. This seems like a really hands on great thing to do. I figure that someone taking the time to reply to reviews would also take the time to build a really great place, and it certainly is that!
Thanks for noticing everything. Please come back often!
Warm, inviting but missing some things... – My wife and I enjoy good food and even though we live in the area we tend to find ourselves driving into Portland to have good food from locally owned restaurants (we really try to support only those places). So that tells you how hard it is to a place close to home.
We decided to try one of the few locally owned/operated in Beaverton. I have been here before a long time ago, it wasn't a memorable evening the first time so we decided to try to give them another chance.
Times are tough right now and business are slow. So when we walked in it was almost empty. As fast as we were greeted and sat, it took quite a few minutes for our server to acknowledged us. A pet peeve with 99% of customers.
The menu prices where fine. The beers are overpriced! As I said I eat out a lot and I don't know one restaurant in Portland that I have paid more then 4.50 for beer, and that includes places like El Gaucho and Blue Hour. The beers here are 4.95 a glass that's more then a well drinks around town! That was a big turn off for us right away. My wife ordered the "Trummer" and it came in it's own glass, That's a 13oz glass . So we were paying 4.95 for a 13oz beer.
Your a neighborhood bar if you want to see your neighbors more often, lower your beer to $4 or 3.50 even or maybe do $3 Thursdays. You still make good money and I can afford some food too then.". I would definitely be there a lot more often just for that.
You guys are suffering with the economy, we understand, but so are we, you need customers we need cheaper beers.
By the way our food was very good!! The wine list could use a little more originality but it was fine for what your trying to do. I did like the wine pairing with your specials though. Great recommendations!
But our server was just ok, not memorable. It's all about the whole experience. I like servers that "let their hair down" those are the ones that people will write about. You have a great place and I know your extremely proud of it and it shows.
I am glad you enjoyed most things during your visit. You are absolutely right about these challenging times, which make it very important that I point out some errors in your review. We offer 10 taps with 8 beers at $4.75 & 2 at $4.95. Regardless of the glassware shape, all are 16oz. The two $4.95 beers, Trumer and Terminal Gravity, are such as both are more costly than our local microbrews. Overall, the hop shortage last year drove prices up and keg prices have yet to come down. Just to be sure, I researched your claims and while I couldn't locate El Gaucho's draft prices, Bluehour ranges from $6 to $6.50 and even McMenamin's guest taps are $4.60! While we might be a little higher priced than McMenamins, we are indeed proud of our quality food, eclectic menu and staff which we believe sets us apart in suburbia. Thanks again for your review - we hope too see you back soon! Larry@monteauxs.com PS: Our winter menu rolls out this Friday, no trick, only treats!
Thank you for your efforts to keep prices reasonable – I am a consistent diner-outer and visited Monteaux for the first time on Saturday. I was pleased to find a neighborhood favorite just down the road. The ambience was a pleasant surprise! We were seated by a friendly fellow and we ordered burgers which were very nicely priced and made to order (I like a burger on the pink side). While I was not in the mood for an alcoholic beverage I noticed some intriguing selections on the menu, for next time. It did not escape my notice that the soda my companion ordered was priced much more reasonably than many other restaurants in the area ($1.69, I believe?). If I had one criticism, it would be that my waitress (a little on the shy side) noticed that we ready to pay and could not excuse herself from a long conversation at another table to take our payment. Thanks for the good meal, we'll be back!
Thank you for your review ? we appreciate the feedback!
As for prices, it is an incredibly hard time to balance all variables but we keep at it! I suspect that you visited during OOMPH! (our revolutionary happy hour) which is daily 3pm to 6pm and 9pm to close. IT?S THE BEST DEAL IN TOWN!
Thanks again for visiting Monteaux?s where we hate to say goodbye :-)
