I went to Fry's Electronics today intent on buying a refrigerator they had advertised. A "half-asleep" sales rep (he was yawning) named, Sal, looked up the item and told me they did not have it in stock. I asked him to check another store. He spent the next 20 minutes checking the computer and calling another store to locate the product. He hung up and said he'll be right back to get me a rain-check. Another 20 minutes past and I found him chatting away with a female customer (looked more like he was drooling). I asked him for a status. He said he can't reach the manager. I said, "..I've been here for over 40 minutes, when were you planning on telling me?" He shrugged and said he's doing the best he can (like, "Who's John Galt").
I left the store and went straight to Lowes, they had the same model selling for about $200 more, but the store promoted a 10% discount and no delivery fee. The sales rep placed the order and confirmed a next day delivery. Now that's service!
After the above experience, I will never consider a big purchase from Frys. God help me if I ever need service from them.
--- The above situation took place at: Fry's Electronics, Hwy 59, Aug. 6, 2012, 2-3pm
Meh, they are alright. – This location is in the Greenspoint area, not the Sugarland area, though there is one at W. Bellfort and 59.
Being that this one is in the Greenspoint area, there are a lot of people working there that are just there to get a paycheck, they don't care about the job or the customers, and would be better suited working in a McDonald's.
With that being said, the store is usually relatively clean, they do have -some- knowledgeable staff members there (like Tam or Tan, cant remember, in the computer hardware area). The ones that are knowledgeable are the ones that care too, as they are always friendly and will go out of their way to help you.
In the 6 years that I've been shopping there, I can't say that I have ever received a product which was used but not marked as such, though mistakes can and sometimes do happen.
I have received a bad PSU in a case one time, and after bringing it back with the motherboard and everything else inside it, I told them "ok, either you can let me swap out this one piece that is bad, or you are going to stand here and wait for me to unscrew every component from inside this case, and then put it all into a new case so I can test it before I leave here." They let me swap out just the PSU.
And once I was helping a friend build a PC from scratch, but the memory kept failing memory tests, so we talked to service and they let us swap out sticks in the lab for about 20 minutes before we gave up and returned everything to get a prebuilt PC. I suspect that the motherboard was actually at fault, but didn't feel like trying to swap out anything else after all of that.
I'll say again that nine times out of ten, the parts I have purchased there have worked flawlessly.
And again also for customer service in the computer hardware department, most of those guys will go out of their way to help you. I went in to get an item that was running out of stock because it was being discontinued by the manufacturer. The guys at this store checked other locations in the computer, saw that Sugar Land had one, CALLED THEM TO VERIFY IT WAS PHYSICALLY PRESENT, which it was, and had them hold it till I could get there. The item I wanted was a first gen TeraStation. :-) Not a really high-dollar item, but they still did all of that for me.
I only give them a 3 -star review because of all of the hispanic and african-american people that work there that just don't care, and for the fact that it seems there is high turnover in the cashier and returns department/ Both of these are most likely due to managers that are overbearing and employees that are underpaid.
Terrible experience – First time shopping w/Fry's will be the last. April 15, I ordered a Samsung LCD online. I checked w/the store and was told they did not have it, but a location in Webster, Tx did. Jason, the "supervisor" would order one. It would be in in 3 days. I called in 3 days was told Jason was on vacation, the Webster store did not have any in stock and that it was against store policy to ship discontinued items. I didn't realize it was discontinued. The sales associate informs me this TV has actually been discontinued for months. Even though Fry's still offered it in April of 09.
I was then told by Greg, a "supervisor", that an email had actually been sent to Arlington. That store had the TVs in stock. It would take 11 days. The Arlington facility only sends a truck once a week. Today, April 30 was the arrival day. I called and spoke to Greg again. The TV is not coming and they had no way of knowing that beforehand. Apparently, the Arlington store continued selling the TVs until the minute before the truck left for Houston and now they are sold out. What a coincidence!
In the end, I realize the mantra for Fry's is... it's discontinued. There is no communication between stores. I had called a couple of times to see if the email had been sent, if there was any reply, if the tv was in fact coming. I was told it should be here on Thursday.
So, what I am left with is... the Arlington store has none, the Southwest Houston store has none and won't be getting any. Why? You guessed it.. it's discontinued.
At one point, I can hear a sales associate and Greg arguing over the phone because neither one wants to talk to me. I was never rude, confrontational or even angry. I was just frustrated and tried to explain that I was just trying to figure out how the system broke down.
Basically, they couldn't have cared less, had no option to rectify this situation and couldn't wait to wash their hands of a customer who was spending thousands of dollars. I now understand all the frustration in giving business to a company that doesn't care about customer service. From now on... I"m shopping at B&H. Even if the cost is more, I don't trust Fry's at all. I am an avid consumer as are many of my friends, I'm sending out the warning now. Don't fall for it.. like I did. You'll end up with a headache, being treated like a leper and little else
they had almost everything – Fry doesn't always had everything, not always had the cheapest prices, but most certainly, had most of the electronics item in your want list and with a one of a kind, friendliest assistance to help with choosing the right and best-est electronics. Through all my shopping trip to buys electronic items, I always choice Fry's over BestBuy, CircuitCity, RadioShack... because Fry's are easy to return items, if you lost your receive or the items you buy is not what you want, all it take is a few questions about why you return your items and that is all it would take, no fee for returning like BestBuy and CircuitCity. And plus most of the time their stock is available, even had a storage inside the store to store more than what they had in front of you which in most of the time you will get the items you see in the sample. Their service is great, treat the customer with respect and professionalism, as a truth business relationship should be.
With more than 50,000 electronic items in each store, this high-tech superstore offers one-stop shopping and service for professionals and hobbyists. – In Short
