Vegan options abound but thankfully, this place doesn't shove it's meatless ways down your throat. The tofu scramble is mighty tasty, as are the fruit-studded pancakes. Do NOT miss the chai tea!
Again, excellent food, slow service! – Not quite sure what the whole scene is about, but if local yuppies overlook the bizarre atmosphere to get their weekly brunch, you know the food must be good! Hands down, the best breakfast restaurant in the city. Just be prepared for slow service -BUT IT is worth the wait.
Peace, love and French toast: This blissed-out vegetarian place has it all. – The Scene
A yuppie bohemian crowd gathers at this sunny breakfast and lunch spot in Roscoe Village. Owner Pradhan Balter has been a student of meditation for more than 35 years, and it shows in the room's spiritual vibe. Servers wear saris, while books on inner peace line shelves around the small room. Other than that, it's like any other good morning spot--relaxed, friendly service, mellow atmosphere and delicious food.
There's enough tofu, soy and egg-less, meat-less dishes on this menu to satisfy any vegan. Along with veggie burgers and "Neatloaf," Victory's Banner tempts with pancakes, three-egg (free-range, hormone-free) omelettes, and thick, piping-hot French toast with peach butter and real maple syrup. Vermont cheddar adds tang to a broccoli and soy sausage omelette; other toppings include spinach, sun-dried tomatoes and five other cheeses. Grab a fresh-made chocolate muffin or cookie on your way out the door--they're dessert nirvana.

Great weekend brunch spot!! – I really enjoyed this place. The food was delicious - my plate was completely licked clean after a few short bites. I recommend the eggless wonder but my friend had an omelette which he said was amazing too. Friendly staff and great, sunny ambiance located in a cute neighborhood, to boot. You won't be disappointed!
Delicious food, great service-wonderful breakfast – I have heard about Victory's Banner for too long from too many people, so I finally made my way over to Roscoe Village to give it a try. Well, it was just excellent in every way. I always include a sample of simple scrambled eggs as a "test standard." When do you remember ever saying "God, these eggs are delicious!"? The waiter explained that VIctory's Banner uses free~range eggs and cook in clarified butter. Everything is cooked fresh. The folks I was with also sampled the pesto-goat cheese omelet, satisfaction-promise (which delivers on its name), and we all shared an order of the "Award Winning" French Toast. My declaration BEST FRENCH TOAST IN THE CITY. Coffee is rich, chai is the real thing (not a steamed tea bag). Service was great and friendly. I left happy. It has become my favorite breakfast house.
Received no service – Great breakfast food especially for vegetarians. I've eaten here before and had a good experience except the last time I went, I was ignored by the wait staff for 10-15 minutes while other customers coming in after me were greeted and got seated immediately. I did not feel welcomed at all. I spoke with the owner/manager regarding this treatment and when she asked who was suppose to seat customers, no one knew. I left without ever receiving any service. That will be my last visit.
A Perfect Way to Start Your Morning – I?ve been here a few times and it has always been a great experience. The service is excellent and the food even better. I usually order French toast topped with fresh (yes, fresh) berries and scrambled egg whites with a variety of add-in?s. They don?t skimp on the berries, so my husband usually ends up finishing off my eggs. It?s a much better experience than many other popular breakfast restaurants which tend to create a hectic vibe from the initial wait and seating, all the way to the check comes. This place allows you to relax and enjoy your food. This means prompt, friendly service with a relaxed attitude.
Excellent Eats – Victory's Banner is awesome. If you're going on the weekend, make like the staff and zen out as soon as you walk thru the door because there will be a wait (10-40 mins). Put your name on the list and walk to Starbucks to get a paper or check out the thrift store or trendy shops across the street. Once you get a table, you're in for a treat. Sure to please are the raspberry french toast, omlettes, the Satisfaction Promise or Erin's Eggless Wonder. All the eggs they use are free-range (Phil's Farm Fresh). For lunch you can't beat the bacon cheeseburger. Vegan? Just tell them and they'll make your dish to order. The tofu scramble is a fantastic vegan dish. They recently added a few new wraps to the menu and I hope they keep them on there ~ the avocado, bacon, lettuce, tomato wrap is outstanding.
In the summer you can bring your dog and eat at the tables outside. The only frustrating thing about this restaurant is that the staff takes retreats a couple times a year, so if you're a regular it can be frustrating when you go all the way over there and find the place closed. But that's what you get for not calling ahead I guess.
One of the best egg breakfast we've ever had! – The Chai was probably the best I've had in Chicago. If you're a tea lover, definitely have the chai! We had the caramelized onion omelette, curry omelette and choc chip pancakes. Caramlized omellete was absolutely delicious, the curry omelette was good but the sauce was sweet. Pancakes were ok. The waitstaff was very simple and down-to-earth, no attitude here. The owner Pradhan was friendly as well. The ambience was laid back, warm and friendly. The prices were reasonable, in line with other breakfast/pancake places. We will definitely be going back soon!
At the pinnacle... – Were in awe of VB...
Everything we tried was absolutely wonderful, hot and fresh tasting. Our omelet was bursting with flavor, packed with goat cheese, FRESH spinach and peppers.
The special rasberry and mascarpone french toast was delightful too. It came hot, was perfectly textured, not too sweet or tart.
A perfect breakfast isn't complete without a few strong yet smooth cups of coffee. VC delivers, as with everything else. Big cups of strong, flavorful joe, the ideal morning cure!
The decor is light and airy, soothing even. Flowing shapes, soft atmospheric lighting, and soft colors definitely make for a relaxing morning repast. Equally impressive? The service - unfailingly positive, prompt and polite. Oh, I almost forgot, the prices are outstanding. I would have paid more, and still thought it was a bargain.
Overall, we can't recommend VB enough. It stands alongside Tre Kronor as our favorite breakfast spot.
Great Breakfast – My family and I really enjoyed the food! My Brother and my daughter had the pancakes which were fantastic (they let me have one small taste). I had the french toast and that butter was great, the french toast was very filling. I really liked the food and it was nice to know that the food was healthy! I have one small complaints and that is the COFFEE and the service. The coffee was way too strong, just awful! Our experience was Great, The Food is Fantastic and we will definitely will be back!
