Solid booking, decent cover charges and an intimate room make this place work.

Watch your bar tab! – Chop Suey was one of my worst experiences at a club. Almost passed out from full capacity crowd, they serve weak drinks and the staff are a bit full of themselves. To top it off, my friend was charged $30 for three domestic beers and two well drinks...I didn't realize a Black Label was $6??! I hope Chop Suey uses that extra money they pocketed to invest in an HVAC system...it's I-Spy all over again! Bring cash, don't start a tab!

quite interesting – I spent Friday night at Chop Suey, which I absolutely enjoyed: quite nice social crowd topped with a good DJ spinning trance - had a wonderful time. the drinks were lacking alcohol, which is a good thing after all.

What a Birthday... – I went to CS on Sunday to celebrate my 21st. I had a great time. The music was good, the crowd was friendly, and it was just better than I had expected. You can't judge it from the outside. Once you have a drink or two you realize it's a nice laid back place to be. Don't let me forget ALL the beautiful people I saw and met (i.e. men). My friends and I enjoyed ourselves and CS will be seeing a lot more of us.

Umm - I don't think so... – I'm sorry, but I was not at all impressed with Chop Suey. I guess I'm just not into the wanna-bee "gangsta's" - and the rap music that goes along with it. The drinks weren't good at all, the music reeked, and well...if your into the bump n' grind music (and crowd) then this is the place to go. I'm not. GIVE ME SOME CLASS!!

Check the place to be heard! – I have to admit that, that is the p[lace to be! I can't believe that the idea of the fact that they turned some regular old breakroom in thei place called chop suey! It is a really awsome place. Since they have been having this night by you son! I have to admit that I love it! I have to give it a rating because there is really no other place that would understand hip hop like I do... hmmmm...it's great!

poseurs give seattle bad name – As near as I can figure, the new thing in music chic is to NOT know how to tune your instrument and the less ability you have to actually play a riff the better. Look like a junkie, act like an elitist jerk, play crappy music and you're in. This is the scene that gave birth to bands like the Strokes and the White Stripes. I love the bar...good drinks, great atmosphere but....MORE DIRTY BIRDS!!! PS: Audrey kicks butt.

Capitol Hill has style? – That's a new one to me. Chop Suey is fun, interesting, good Sunday night crowd. Great place to dance and drink. But, definitely NOT stylish.

Part of the Baltic Room/Cha Cha legacy – Simply put: Chop Suey is a great place to go and see bands/dj's in an urbane, hip atmosphere. The sound system isn't too bad, the drinks are functional and the lighting is excellent (warm red glow). It's a hipster scene - sure, so if that offends you - don't go. The shows can be very intimate there. One thing I particularly like about it is that when the groove gets going it can turn into more of a party than a bar (i.e. - Mark Farina's show in early Nov/O2). Lots of sexy bodies sweating to the beat, a nice mix of straight/gay/bi and ? people, and a slight see-and-be-seen scene to it. That can be a lot of fun, especially if you get the right show. Overall: Pick a show you want to see, dress in something that makes you feel good - and go.

Quirk-curious Eastsiders' Best Bet – Very good at providing a Truman Show view into urban trendster nightlife. Unfortunately, "look, don't touch" policy grows intolerable. Example: recent Catheters show. CS gets the "Punk is Dead" award for ejecting audience members for trying to mosh. And after lead singer twice jumped into crowd in futile attempt to jumpstart the somnambulant mass. Weak audience of coiffed hairdo's and eyeliner allowed singer to hit the floor on a stage dive. CS has attempted to reincarnate the hit Brit Pop Night as Park Life, but the core crowd is noticably absent. Reason may be scale or CS's insensitity to bumping Park Life for bigger acts. Cap Hill's dearth of live music venues renders CS's no-rebelous-behavior policy all the more disconcerting. CS may get it on track at some point. In the meantime, it remains a safe bet to take your bebe-attired girlfriend to watch noisy rock acts in a fishbowl.
