Poor service, rude waitress! – My family and I go to Tokyo Hibachi every Sunday evening (also in Downey) and usually get good service. We decided we would try Ichiban because a friend recommended it and it had pretty good reviews. I will NEVER return. Our server was Liz. If you sit in her section request to be moved. She was very rude. It was early evening (around 5:00) and they were not very busy. It took her 20 minutes to come take our order. We started out by ordering 3 different sushi rolls, some sushi, soup, salad and tea. The whole time we were ordering she was tapping the pen and had her lip curled as if she thought we were taking too much of her time. There were three of us and only one set of chopsticks. I asked her for two more sets. She brought me one set. She never brought the soup, salad or tea. When the rolls were brought out another thirty minutes later, she only brought out two plates. Still not tea, or soup or salad. I asked her to bring us another set of chopsticks, and the soup and salad, and tea. She didn't. The server behind us came over to our table and apologized and brought us some tea, and the chopsticks. We explained about the soup/salad and she brought those out as well. When we were ready to order more sushi, we had to to tell the other server. Liz did not come to check on us again until she brought the check along with one peppermint and one cookie (for THREE people)- not sure how she wanted us to split that! Everytime she would come to our table she made a snyde remark. She was awful. I called to speak to the manager and was told he would not be available to speak to me because they just opened another store and he was busy there, but if I came in I would get better service. TOO BAD I WON'T BE BACK. Do not go here unless you are a fan of bad service. The caterpillar roll, sushi, and rainbow roll were good, as well as the soup. The spider roll was not very good, though. I do not recommend this place after the awful service received!
Old, poor quality fish, made me sick, owner didnt care. – I decided to check out the place because it's close to my house. I had a rainbow roll and a spicy tuna roll. The fish smelled. It looked old and shriveled. I had a bad feeling about it, but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. It did not taste fresh. The next day I was violently ill for several hours. I told the owners about it, and they were unapologetic and not understanding at all! They hung up on me!
Jazz n' Sushi – Again, im not a sushi person, but I enjoy checking out local restaurants...this one is two blocks from my place...it was tiny but it feels sooo roomy inside...the atmosphere felt upscale yet comfortable...food not too expensive and as another user noted, they have Jazz music sometimes and you do have to ask for any specials...
Great Sushi – Nice place for local sushi. The fish is very fresh and the rolls are tasty. Great customer service.
employees own the restaurant? – we were surprise to know that each sushi chefs and servers were not part of the ownership even they were working like if it was their own. First we thought of small uncared but as soon as we told the server what we needed, all the people in the dining had to hear what we needed. As we always say, you need to let them know what we need to receive. Good Jazz music, good lighting with glass of wine... Some specials are not even in the menu. Once again we had to ask.. and got it!
No pressure, dress free and feels comfortable.
