good beer, food not so good – this place is a good hang out place. but eat before you come here. the beer was good. but my buddy and i were hungry. our first time here didnt know what to expect. he had the chicken and i had the tri-tip. both were completely... and i mean completely... unflavored. no salt or pepper or marinade or anything! they jsut threw the meat on the grill and cooked it. and the pretty much sums it up. the "steamed" veggies were barely steamed! my broccolli and carrots were still raw and crispy. and yea... absolutely no flavoring. the potato salad on the side... no salt. i had to salt everything i ate. the best part of the dinner was the beer and the fries. come thirsty, but dont come hungry.
Questionable Fish & Chips but great beer – I'm not really sure how Cherygirl could say that their fish and chips were good because mine were anything but! After eating one piece I understood why it was only $7.95 for 3 pieces; it didn't taste fresh and was along the lines of the fish sticks I used to eat when I was 5. Then I tried to bite into the second piece only to discover that it was still frozen in the middle! I thought of sending it back but I was no longer hungry because I couldn't get the feeling and taste of biting into frozen fish out of my head! Yuck!
On the plus side their waffle fries are awesome and their IPA is great and only $2 on Tuesdays!
Great on Tuesdays – The best time to go get a beer in Sacramento on tuesdays because there only $2 all night. Not a bar scene, but bring friends and drink it up before you go out!
Surprisingly good... – I expected to go to Rubicon and get the typical pub food that I experinece at most brewery/restaurants, but I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was at Rubicon. The fish and chips were awesome and all prices were very reasonable. The beer was very good as well. We took our 5 year old son, and he enjoyed his kids meal as well as the relaxing seating offered outside. We also recieved very good attentive service.
This midtown brewery makes microbrews that are perfect for washing down a burger, sandwich or fish and chips. – The Scene
This fairly plain brewpub appears to have been a former warehouse--the beams and roof are exposed and painted white, while the floors are a mix of concrete and ceramic tile. The stainless-steel vats for brewing, enclosed behind wide glass windows, line the east wall. The crowd is mostly 20- and 30-somethings, with a smattering of older patrons.
If you like the heat, try the "famous" Rubicon wings. Succulent and loaded with spices, their vinegary aroma smacks you in the nose before the first bite. Fortunately, the inferno in your mouth is extinguishable with a gulp or two of Rubicon brew. The Reuben sandwich is another goodie, as are the fish tacos.
