Really Enjoy The Food!! – I enjoy their food here. Lots of mouth watering flavor and I like the super fast way they get the food out to you, without feeling hurried. More accurately, I think I should say that the food comes out in successions, at the perfect timing.
meatless meaty – I now live on the East Coast and crave Mary's Meatless Meaty I first encountered in the 80s on Folsom St in SF. I can't find anything like it. Please... I'd looooove the recipe.
Easy to find – I get to sacramento very offten but when I do I always stop at Hamburgey Marys. The service is fast when I'm in a hurry. Lets not forget the hambugers are so yummy...
Fantastic Food... Horrible Service – I have been regularly attending this spot (about once a month) for the last few years. The Burgers are the best in town in my opinion. Fries are also fantastic (avoid the spicy fries). My favorite is the Bleu Burger. All burgers are juicy and they even ask you how you want it cooked and what type of bread! Their Salads are extremely good as well. This place would get 5 stars if it wasnt for the bad service. Most of the servers here are not that friendly. On several occasions they seem to have the attitude of a small diner server: Attitude, no small talk, just BLAH. Now when I go I just sit at the bar the majority of the time and converse with the friendly (and more attractive looking) hosts and bartenders. It seems they have the service backwards here. I will still continue to go here for the food. My suggestion: sit at the bar.
Best hamburger and fries ... compare with Nationwide Meats and the Squeeze Inn. – Burger: JUICIER than Nationwide Meats and Squeeze Inn (which are big but rather dry)
Bun: You get a CHOICE of white or wheat bun (other hamburger places don't give you this choice)
Condiments: consistently FRESH lettuce and CRISP tomato (never soggy)
Fries: You get a CHOICE of regular fries or spicy fries. The fresh-cut fries are the most TENDER I've tasted
and you can't get these delicious spicey fries anywhere else.
Overall rating: My wife and I give Hamburger Mary's our highest rating. But don't take our word for it. Try other highly-ranked establishments like Nationwide Meats and the Squeeze Inn, and compare for yourself.
Unfortunate incident at Hamburger Mary's - er, Hambuger Patty – Hamburger Mary's is now HAMBURGER PATTY. Food and service remains the same-mediocre at best.
I had an awkward experience there months ago. I was about to drink my iced tea and came face-to-face with a few bodies of plankton floating atop the iced tea. I told our server who chortled (i.e. gleeful chuckle). I called his attention more times before he asked if I wanted my iced tea replaced, which I did. With a huff, he abruptly turned around with my glass in hand.
How sad! Where, oh, where is customer service nowadays! Which brings me to today?s unfortunate incident.
Against my better judgment, I heeded my friend?s request to have lunch at Hamburger Patty. He has not eaten there for quite a while. I expressed my hesitation but thought that the restaurant?s name change would also mean a change in food service.
Later, picking his half-eaten Bleu Burger from the plate, he noticed something sticking out. Pulling the foreign-looking object and showing it me, we made the conclusion that it was a short-albeit-curly string of human hair. Without as much as a grimace on his face, my friend put down the half-eaten sandwich.
A few moments later, a rather overweight male server approached us and asked if it was all right to take away my friend?s plate. It was probably obvious that my friend was not touching his food.
My friend and I pointed out the short-albeit-curly string of human hair now resting on the plate. I added that it was gross to be with the food. The male server responded with a chortle (chortling must be part of the training) and left with the plate of half-eaten food.
Later, our female server checked on us and asked how we enjoyed our food. My friend and I told her of the presence of an unfortunate, short albeit curly string of human hair incident. She paid no attention, because she chortled, turned away, and left.
Guess where I?m never going to eat, ever again?
Good hamburger, but very unfriendly... – My wife and I love burgers. We like them simple, but that does not mean our palates are simple. The bun, condiments, patty, greens, and condiments need to be fresh and proportioned just right. Hamburger Mary's (in Sacramento) does a decent job of putting together a good simple burger. We ate there about 4 times in a 6-month period. It was the service that eventually drove us away.
On our last visit, my wife received her burger, and started to eat it. A quarter of the way through, she noticed that the patty was extra bloody and raw. Apparently, the patty did not thaw out evenly, and the cold portions just didn't cook as well as we had liked. We asked the waiter to take the burger back, and just cook it a little more. We DID NOT ask for a new burger. Instead of doing that, he returned with the bill, and stated that he's not charging us for the 2nd burger. Now, my wife's sitting there still hungry because she only ate a quarter of the burger and half her fries. We got the message, clear and simple...we were not wanted in that restaurant.
I split my burger in half, and shared it with my wife, and swore that I'd never return there, and make sure none of my family, friends, or acquaintances would ever step foot in there. This occurred about 2 years ago, and I finally got around to writing this review because a coworker happen to mention the restaurant again. Thanks for reading...
Consistently Good Burgers – We've been here several times and have pretty much stuck to the burgers. They have always been cooked to order and tasty. The fries have always been fresh and crispy. The service is friendly and reasonably prompt.
Upholding the Mary's tradition – I used to eat at the Mary's in Portland a long time ago (it's no longer), and stumbled upon the outlet in Sacramento. The food was just as I remembered it, the spicy fries were great, the service was very attentive and friendly, and the place was MUCH cleaner and better-maintained than the one in Portland.
Just Plain Bad – WEll, we loved Hamburger Mary's in San Francisco, hadn't been there since it was sold. We went to dinner in Sacramento, and were so grossed out we left. The eating area was filthy, uncleared, unwiped tables with food stuck to them, the chairs and the floor. The service was invisible, although very pleasant when they finally arrived with not a clue about how to wait tables, and the food was - well, we left. Greasy, overcooked and unflavored. Terrible. We left.
