Great food – The distillery is consistently excellent. They have wonderful sandwiches, and make one of the best 1/2 pound burgers in town.
Their salads are monster huge with quality ingredients.
I have eated at the Distillery for over 20 years. I have NEVER had a bad meal.
Go there. You'll be happy you did.
Handmade Food, with the waitress's own hands! – With the door to the kitchen open, I witnessed our waitress making our salads. They were part of The Distillery's legendary French Dip meal, but in this case, I think it will be the last one for me.
As I was seated facing the kitchen, I noticed that the door to the kitchen was open and I watched the waitress reach into a bucket of lettuce with her own hands, grab some lettuce, place it into the salad bowls, and then add some sliced beets, again using her own bare fingers. This was after bussing table of dirty dishes and handling currency.
I don't have to tell the average person how unsanitary this is, but apparently I did have to tell the waitress. I spoke with her about it after paying for the meal. I've learned never to complain about food or service at a restaurant, until all the food has been delivered and the bill resolved. I guess I could have complained about it before paying the bill, but when I asked to speak with the manager, she said the manager wasn't around, but I could speak to her.
After telling her about my health concerns of her preparing food in an unsanitary manner, she thanked me for the "constructive criticism".
Anyway, you'll see good reviews for this place, just ask them to close the door to the kitchen if you come for a visit.
Must Try It! – You know those little places your afraid to try but hear is great, well this is and you should definately try it. The 1/2-1/2 is the best! You get twin sandwhices, one being a french dip and the other being a steak sandwhich. The Steak Sandwhich is a thin slice of new york and the owner cuts them him self. The Prime Rib is also the best in town. The bleu cheese is also made by the owner and a secret he will die with. The horseradish sauce in incredible. You have to try it atleast once. Days can be busy as many state workers come for lunch. Depending on the night it can be busy aswell but worth the wait.
best french dip from a french dip lover – Being a huge French Dip aficionado makes me a harsh critic of those establishments that claim to serve the finest of this only grail of roast beef entrees. When I stopped in for dinner one night I was expecting only to be lulled to death by the typically mediocre attempt of my favorite dish which I still loyally order at each restaurant I visit for the first time. I ordered the French dip and a Cesar salad. I was pleasantly surprised at the enormous portion sizes but I was even more so surprised at the amazingly delicious French dip. You have to eat this sandwich with both hands as the high quality beef is piled high between wonderfully absorbent roll. The au jus is honestly the best I?ve ever had. The sandwich is also served with a horseradish mayo that enhances the salty flavors. I wouldn?t be a true aficionado if I didn?t share this with others looking for an expert crafted French Dip. Kudos to the chef you?ve won my loyalty. Kudos also to the wonderful waiter who took the initiative to pack my to-go box with extra au jus.=D
Bring A Book! – I sat at the bar and while the bartender provided GREAT service, the waiterss took three chapters of a book before I asked the the bartentender to get her. I was on chapter seven by the time my food came and it took 1 1/2 hours to get and eat a quick lunch. The food was good and the portions generous but bring your paitence or a good book!!
Great Grub – They have a daily special; terrific beef; huge portions. A real chow-hound's delight. Really good food and lots of it. Go early evening and you're treated like family. We eat there every now and then and have always had a great meal. You can't buy the steaks they serve in the supermarket for what they charge for the entire meal--great service. Tru it you'll wonder why you went elsewhere, paid more and were hungry an hour later.
Good drinks, great steaks and hip local musicians can all be found here. – The Scene
The wrought iron bars out front and the hanging plants peppering the bar and dining area seem out of place for an up-and-coming rock venue. After dinner Wednesday through Saturday, the tables and chairs disappear from a corner to make room for some of the best bands Sacramento has to offer. The low ceilings give it a cozy feeling, despite its size, and the sound is always good.
Carnivores, when the steaks are getting served up. Then, scenesters following the hip local music. This is the place to run into your favorite musician doing shots on the next bar stool and find out who the cool kids are.
Rock, punk and reggae bands. Also, DJs and poets take the stage... er, the corner, that is.
BEST STEAK IN TOWN – Ya, the place is a bit dated, but when you walk into this place you will be greated as if you are family. You will be served a good ole fashioned steak dinner. It is hard to find this kind of steak house anymore.
Multipe Times Crappy Service, OK food – Coworkers raved about this place called The Distellery. They took me there and was the worst experience of my life. We sat there for 50 min. and didn't get any food (we got our drink after about 1/2 hour) lucky for us water was on the table. When we got our food the food was horribly cold and didn't taste that great. When we asked to see the manager we were told he didn't want to see us. We asked again and the waiter came back to tell us that he didn't care what we thought and we could just leave. The service was OK and the food was decent (primarily because they knew we were coming). Then today once again we attempted to eat there. All we got was rudeness and no food. I will NEVER go there again and will urge everyone else not to as well.
