OUTSTANDING WORK... I was very pleased with the work that Shelby Fence Company done. I would recommend the company to all reading this posting.
If you are smart, you will steer clear of this company. I bought a D.R. Horton home with a fence installed by Shelby Fence Company. It is very poorly installed, with the majority of it sitting directly on or jammed into the ground. The D.R. Horton contractor told me that he would have them come out and trim off the fence above the ground. Months after that conversation, someone from the company showed up at my home out of the blue without my knowledge while I was not at home. My gate was locked so he could not get inside the fence. He took it upon himself to saw off 4 or 5 boards on each side of one corner of the fence--he cut the inside boards from outside the fence. It was cut very unevenly, and so short that my dog can now get out, totally defeating the purpose of having a fenced back yard. I contacted the company as soon as I saw it. The receptionist told me to email them pictures before anything else. Three weeks later, I had no response from them and I emailed them back to complain. At that point, I was told the fence would be fixed the next day, but that the owner was going to call me to speak to me personally. Imagine my surprise when he was rude, arrogant, and unhelpful as could be. I don't know how this company has stayed in business.
won't repair loose boards... won't return calls! – I had a fence put up in the back of my townhouse this summer. First of all, when I got home, the posts were in the wrong place! I wanted them taken up, but they said that it would be too difficult?? When I called Tim about the now smaller fenced-in yard, he acted like I was trying to get out of paying the bill and was very ugly to me! The fence I ended up with was several feet shorter than the one they gave me an estimate for and he simply needed to give me the corrected figures since they screwed up. I told him I would promptly pay, which I did. Also, I have had issues with the top boards warping up and found out that these boards should have been screwed down. When I called about it one month post-installation, they told me that they knew that it would happen, due to sun exposure!!! Then, why wouldn't you screw the boards down to begin with? I have called and called about the boards.. They will not call me back. Also, they used wood that was too young. The bright green boards that they used are still that color, 6 months later. They told me that the green was due to some treatment, not the age of the wood. Well, fellas.... those boards are still green and they are outward facing boards. I am going to call the BBB.
Bad Company! Owner with bad temper and sloppy work! – Bad Experience!!
I put two fences up when I built my new home. The first one was a $1200 Vinyl Chainlink dog run. And the Second was a $6k privacy fence for the entire backyard. I hired Shelby to do the work. I specifically pointed out the new $2500 in Sod that had just been laid and asked not only the owner and girlfriend of the fence company, but also the workers that showed up the day of installation, to be careful not to get concrete on it. The dog run should have been my easiest project building the home and it turned into a nightmare. When I returned home it was like the deliberately pour concrete on my sod in multiple locations. They compeltely disregarded my wishes and ruined a good bit of the sod. I called the owner and he went into a rant and rave on the phone saying I was just trying to get out of the bill. I explained that I wasn't had I would happily pay his bill if he would give me one, however I did need to have the sod issue taken care of. Never once did I threaten not to pay the bill. It went from good to bad and I ended up calling the police deparment on the owner because of physical threats to me. The dog run it'self was poorly installed, very few ties on the post and the rails are very uneven. After reporting him to the police I never heard from him and did not ever receive any type of bill. I would stay away from the company.
Terrible Service – I had a tree fall on my fence and needed it repaired. I called Shelby Fence and a guy came out and gave us an estimate. He said someone would be out in a couple of days to fix it. Nobody showed up. I called and they said someone would come out in a couple of more days. Nobody came out. I repeatedly tried calling them and left them messages, but nobody has returned my call. I had to fix the fence myself. They are very unprofessional. Call someone else if you need a fence.
Excellent – It is refreshing to find a company that provides professional, quality, and economical service. My experience with Shelby fence was very satisfying.
Quality Work – I was very pleased with the craftmanship of the work and the promt to service Shelby Fence Company gave our family. I would recomend the company to all reading this posting. AML (Hoover,AL)
Horrible Expereince – Trenched my yard. Didn't return phone calls in a timely manner, lost quote more than once. Poured concrete on new sod after being asked to be careful. I have service problems. Don't use them.
