Horrible Customer Service – Tonight (Saturday, December 17, 2011) I ordered a special take-out meal for my wife's birthday from Costa’s in Hoover. She chose Costa's because we always enjoyed previous meals. She dressed nicely and chose a nice bottle of wine and prepared candles while I went to pick up my order. When ordering on the phone, I was told it would be 45 minutes before I could pick up my meal. Arriving on time, I found the drive-through lane stretched around the building, so I went inside to find a throng of uncomfortable, unsmiling customers. Shortly it became obvious they were grumbling and complaining about their orders not being ready. No employee was behind the counter to keep the crowd calmed so it got a bit loud and comments were peppered with simmering hostility, which was disturbing. Soon it became a customer nightmare.

15 minutes went by. I was asked my name, by someone who disappeared to the back and never came back with my order or an explanation. Another 10 minutes went by with no one in line getting their order. After another 15 minutes I finally worked my way to the counter. That brought no relief because for 20 minutes no one came to deliver an order. Waiting 20 minutes there, I was asked what I had ordered and told the counter person. That made me most displeased after all this time. Other patrons came in and received their orders before me. One patron waiting beside me uttered a few words and stormed off. Everyone spoke with critical remarks. One man standing beside me said he had 16 guests waiting at his home and he had been left hanging there over an hour. Another lady said she had ordered a week before and confirmed that day. She had already been waiting over thirty minutes. Someone employee who finally emerged from the back (where they all remained out of sight 90% of the time) told me my order was on the line and would be out soon. (That was a big, fat lie) I called my wife who was becoming testy at home without food. She had put the wine back in the fridge and changed out of her good dress.

After winding up the last person waiting at the counter, a callously discourteous employee sauntered up and asked me if I had ordered under another name. I told her no, but I wanted my order and had already lost my patience. She looked straight at me and said in a droll tone, "We lost your order" and then just stared blankly at me. I was incredulous. She offered no explanation, concern, or alternate course of fulfilling my order whatsoever. It was obvious she could have cared less. I quickly let her know my of my total displeasure and quickly exited very upset. (I can only identify the rude employee as a basically unattractive, inattentive female with pulled-back mousy, brownish-blond hair and inappropriately attired in a well-worn auburn t-shirt. She slurred her remarks to the point few of the irate customers could understand her, and was obviously neither professional nor mannerly.)

After waiting at your counter over I hour, I left empty-handed and had to secure dinner from one of your competitors where I was treated with courtesy, respect, and prompt service. I can truly say tonight at Costa’s I suffered through the worst customer service experience at in a restaurant I have ever encountered, plus ruining dinner plans for my wife’s birthday. Thanks a lot!

I am in charge of corporate meals for my employer and had already chosen Costa’s for several meals of over 60 diners in January. Rest assured those plans have changed. Needless to say, I will NEVER return to your mismanaged den of indifferent incompetents, nor use your catering service. It appears to be a restaurant on the skids staffed by discourteous, untrained staff. There are dozens of other outstanding restaurants in Hoover within a few miles of Costa's. I’ll take my business where it's appreciated…and that is obviously not Costa's.

Best Food in Town! – My family and I eat at Costa's at least once a week, and the service and food is always exceptional. The staff is friendly and remembers our favorites, and the food is to die for. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great dinner out at a reasonable price. We also pick up take-out through the drive-thru window when we don't feel like dining out....the prices are even better on the family specials!

Bad Experience – Feburary 2010‎ - ‎ - Today

My husband and I went to dinner for a night out. First of all our server was great. But we were seated at a table thats light was out so it was dark and hard to read the menu. I ordered a dish that I thought was meatless (as I have not had meat in over 18 years) the dish came and had a lot of meat. I told the server who agreed to fix it. It was taken back to the kitchen. After waiting several min it was returned with more meat. I told the server again and they returned to the kitchen and then came back and told me they could not take it back after 2 times per management or the server would have to pay for it. Then I was ask if I wanted a box to take the meat dish home. I was offered another dish at the servers expence which I did not take as I felt it was not the servers place to have to pay for it. My husband had finished his food by this point and we had other plans. I did not have any longer to wait. I spoke with the manager and was told they did not take the food back after 2 time and it was listed with meat(you could not read it in the dim light) and they could not change that. Point is it was sent back because of the meat and exchanged for the same dish with more meat. Our server was very nervous and it was obvious she had be chewed out by management. We paid for our dinner that I did not get and left hungry. I used to enjoy Costa's but due to the way that they treat their servers and customers I will never go back and spend my money there. The night we went I had planned on getting information from them to cater a large event for me. That is not going to happen now. I was very displeased with their management and kitchen staff. Management need a lesson in customer service and how to threat their staff as their equals. I am completely disgusted with them and sorry we decided to go there for dinner.

Makes your mouth water. – They are honestly the best italian restaurant in town, I have never ordered anything I didn't like. The portions are big enough to eat lunch the next day with, we always go on Friday or Saturday night and I always have plenty left, and for the price, amazing. My little girl is so picky, yet they accomodate her everytime noodles specially cooked with butter (not on the menu). The staff has always been very pleasant to me, and I will continue to go back as often as I can.

DISAPPOINTED – VERY VERY BAD EXPERIENCE ON 11/20/08. We placed an order (well in advance) with Costa's for a luncheon at work. Ironically, another dept placed an order for the same day and ordered the EXACT same thing (4 pans of lasagna and 3 pans of spaghetti). We went to check with the other dept and they had their order correct so we called. Not only did they short us a pan of lasagna, Joe (owner/manager) was EXTREMELY rude when we called to inform him of the mistake. He actually told us "You people have what you ordered you probably cut it wrong!" He kept cutting us off. His final say was "Even though I know you people were delivered the right amount of food, I'll give you another pan so I wont have to deal with this but you need to come and get it." This, however was after 3 phone calls. We had already paid a delivery fee of $25 so we didnt bother to drive 15 mins. Instead, we had to make do with what we had. We had an order totalling nearly $300. Can you imagine how he may treat you if you're only spending 5 or 10 bucks? So if you like good customer service (or just decent customer service) with your food, this is definitely not what you desire!!

Bad Experience – Very bad experience with staff and management. I ordered two family portion take-out orders rather than a single order portion. The order of the baked greek chicken was wrong. I had specifically asked before placing the order for a description of the entree. After picking up the order, I got home and found my order was an entree for one rather than a family size portion. I called & spoke with a woman on the phone and she couldn't be bothered. She exclaimed "Jesus" when I told her I thought my order was wrong -- not only did I find her comment to be unprofessional but also offensive to use the Lord's name in vain. I then asked to speak with the manager and Joe came to the phone. Joe told me that his employee had made a mistake -- after all, as he told me, "she was human". I certainly understood that people make mistakes, but I expected Joe to accept some obligation since I didn't have enough chicken to feed everyone. I had inquired about the quantities before placing the order in order to insure that I would have enough food. The take-out menu does not give specific descriptions regarding portion size related to family-size, it simply lists "for 2" or "for 4". Joe told me he had no obligation. When I inquired further, he told me it was a waste of his time to discuss it further and if I wanted to drive back to the restaurant and bring my order back that he would give me a refund.

Unfortunately, I had a bad experience with an in-dining experience a few weeks earlier but had thought it was a one time experience. I now know that Joe doesn't care if his customers are happy & obviously doesn't care if he has repeat business.

At the end of the conversation, I asked Joe for the owner's name and he said he was the owner and manager -- so now I know, and you do too -- buyer beware -- because Joe doesn't care if his employee describes an entree one way and then delivers something else to you.

P.S. After all of that, the chicken was dry and over cooked.
