great sandwiches – i totally love this place. great vibes, and great food. what else can one ask for.
Eat at your own risk!!! – Me and my friend should have learned our lesson the first time when we found a hair in her banana bread that she bought from Abbots Habit. But no we thought that can happen anywhere and this one of are local eating places so i would hate to have to take it off the list of the few places close by to grab a bite. Especially because i do enjoy there drinks and food...but yesterday my poor friend AGAIN had a bad experience with the food she bought from there. As she was eating her sandwich a dead fly fell out of her sandwich!!!!! Not cool!!! So I'm warning you all to eat there at your own risk.
Hole-in-the-wall treasure on Abbot-Kinney – This is a great cafe for breakfast/lunch, or even a great place to study. Follow the advice and grab a table outside, there's always something interesting going on in Venice. It's always fairly quite and a great place to hole up and grab a cup of coffee.
BAGELS and CREAM CHEESE! – I came everyday for breakfast for the five days I stayed with a friend in Venice because I couldn't drag myself anywhere else. The bagels and whipped cream cheese are SO good here. I also had to order a fresh orange juice and latte every morning because they were so good as well. and you can't beat the unpretentious, local, relaxed ambience. Great people watching inside and out. I still go back here on occassion even though I live on the east side.
Bad service, unexciting and overpriced sandwich – I've always wanted to visit this cafe, and finally I did. Maybe its better days are behind us, because the service was terrible and my sandwich was expensive and not a good value for the money. It was just okay. I've gotten better sandwiches from Fresh and Easy for half the price. The girl helping me behind the counter couldn't wake up long enough to answer questions about the menu and had to ask people (who had to ask people). And this was just about the types of bread! Nobody seemed all that happy to be there, and they could definitely have cared less about my experience. And, the restroom was filthy. I won't go back.
Best cafe in Venice! – I am a Venice local (two years), and this is my review:
Abbot's is, by far, the most fun place to hang out on the Westside. Grab a table inside, and you're surrounded by Venice locals (i.e., surfers, artists, actors, and generally very cool people). Most days, one of the incredibly talented staff will be playing the piano they've got inside (talk about ambiance!). Or, opt to sit outside, and you're in for some of the best people watching in all of Venice! And you're bound to get sucked into a great conversation with all of the very socially and politically intelligent people who frequent this Venice hotspot.
The staff at Abbot's awesome. They work hard, day in and day out, to make Abbot's the most inviting little cafe on the Westside - and they consistently succeed. Their fearless leader (you'll recognize him by his long, dirty blond hair and his laidback, beachy attitude) is one of the nicest guys you'll ever want to meet.
All in all, I highly recommend Abbot's Habit - for breakfast, lunch, or a light dinner. The food is fantastic (really unique sandwiches, pastries, soups and salads), the coffee and tea is tasty hot - but the real story is the atmosphere. A true Venice social scene, frequented by genuinely nice, interesting and intelligent people - you can't say that about some of the new, trendy cafes down the street.
It Used To Be Nice, Now It's A Wreck With Bad Service – I used to frequent this place quite a lot. However, recently, the people they have working behind the counter have taken to blasting the radio. I asked one worker if she could turn the radio down. She scoffed and turned away. Next, I asked a boy working behind the coutner if he could turn the music down. He said "yes", and then turned the dial down on the radio maybe half a centimeter. If that's how the owners of Abbot's Habit want to run their coffee shop, I hope they go out of business soon.
Oh yeah, and judging by the feces stained toilet, I guess they don't even want customers to use the restoom.
Laid-back hangout pours super-charged coffee for neighborhood regulars. – In Short
Surfers, artists, writers and dot-comers congregate in this bright corner space, where the art on the walls is for sale and open-mic nights are a frequent occurrence. Aside from the notably strong coffee, the cafe sells pastries and baked goods from a number of local bakeries: blueberry scones, coffee cake, cinnamon sugar buns, banana-tofu muffins and chocolate Krispie treats are usually on hand. Deli sandwiches and Italian subs are made to order.
Abbot's Habit is my habit – Great coffee!
Definitely better than corporate coffee houses!
And the people watching from a table outside is killer. You never know who you might see or have a conversation with. Abbot's Habit is a true Venice spot!
Great chai lattes! – I used to work around here and loved the walk from Venice Blvd down Abbot Kinney or Electric Ave to Abbot's Habit to get a sandwhich or (more frequently) chai or coffee. I've never had a bad experience here and their prices are comparable with other more major chain stores. Their baristas are friendly and often suggest something new. I'd gladly go back when in the area.
