This spot is definitely a more intimate setting and is a great spot for a date or close group of friends. The bottomless mimosas is truly the breakfast drink of champions as described on the menu.
Fancy food without the snooty atmosphere. Very laid back and dressy-casual which blends in nicely with the Venice backdrop. Great for dinner or lunch meetings for the start ups and accelerators in the area.
Disappointing – I went to Joe's on Friday night and was really excited to try the newly michelin starred fare. The evening started out well-we were promptly seated, ordered a great cocktail and presented with the menus. Unfortunately the meal went down hill from there. I ordered a special scallop appetizer and my boyfriend ordered the mushroom ravioli. Both were mediocre. For entrees I had the John Dory which was an udon noodle dish, except they left out the noodles. My boyfriend had the escolar that was frankly boring.
I will never be back as it was very expensive for bland food.
Perfect For A Special Occation – This place has a top notch and innovatice menue, high quality ingrediants and a mellow atmosphere. Perfect for a quiet romanitc evening on a special occation, especially if you want to avoid the pretension of restaurants in Beverly Hills,.
great for event! – i had to book a party just before the holidays. everything went perfectly. my group was very happy! my new year's goal is to go back soon --and often-with friends!
Nice place in cool neighborhood – When you discover this nice little area of Venice Beach (Abbott Kinny) you may want to have a dining experience and take it all in.... if that is the case, then you will probably end up choosing Joe's out of the restaurants you see on the main drag. The food is very good and the setting is very clean and modern - this is a very nice place for dates or couples. The place has a very upscale vibe, but prices are reasonable.
I never got seated – My husband and I arrive at Joe?s on Thanksgiving without a reservation at 5pm. The guy hostess told me it would be about 45 min for a walk in reservation. He took my phone number and told me he would call me if a table opened up any sooner.
My husband and I decided to have a drink at the bar while we waited for the table so I let the guy hostess know (he acted like he didn?t remember me from 5 min ago).
About an hour and a half later we decided to leave because we were starving and the table the guy hostess said we would get had been empty for 15 min. The guy hostess came over and said ?Sorry we couldn?t help you tonight.? The correct thing for him to say on Thanksgiving would have been ?I know you?ve waiting a long time, your table will be ready in 5 min. Even if I have to do it myself.? Instead, he sat around doing nothing?
On our way out we decided to tell him that he was rude. The best part of the conversation was when he told us an older couple (who also didn?t have proper reservations) that arrived about 30 min after us were seated 30 min before us because he knew they wouldn?t be happy with the table in the bar. WTF!!!
One Of Westside's Best Restaurants – I had no idea of what to expect the first time I dined at Joe's. I knew nothing about it, except that a friend said it was a "must try".
She was right. It was excellent across the board- service, food, atmosphere and value. We tasted each others choices, listened to the recommendations of the waiter and I was blown away. The waiter was witty with a dry sense of humor, while not a requirement, he was a pleasure to have. His suggestions for drinks were fantastic and while I am most capable to select a wine, I listened to him and was pleased again.
The dining room was lively, but not overpacked. The service was excellent, the staff was very attentive and I never found myself wanting for anything very long, if at all. The food arrived in a timely fashion and it was simply presented and delicious. We saved room for desert too. Just fantastic. It's not a cheap place to eat, but it's worth every penny.
At the end of our meal, Joe came into the dining room and checked on a few tables, ours was one. He is a gracious host, a skilled chef and a top restrauntuer. I strongly suggest that if you are looking for a fine dining experience, you go and see for yourself.
As a local, I am a happy to have such a great restaurant in my neighborhood that provides a consistently excellent dining experience.
My one word review: Go!
Very good food, but poor service left bad taste. – This was our first experience at Joe's, and unfortunately, the Missing Waiter was a real deal breaker for us.
My boyfriend and I had a Sunday 7:00 reservation. We were promptly seated, got the requested outside table, and service started out well. The food was very good: house salad was special. I had seared ahi, which was nicely presented and delicious. Appetizer-size was generous enough to be a main course for light appetites. He got the roast chicken. It had a rich wine sauce and was above average. Dishes were cleared, then we waited and waited....no waiter in the room of five tables of customers. Finally, my bf went in the main dining room in search of a waiter to get dessert menus. A busboy brought menus, and advised us that the waiter would be there soon. Seriously, it was 15 minutes more, with no waiter in sight! We asked for the check and left.
Terrible first impression. We would not return due to service.
Great gourmet food that isn't absurdly expensive :) – I went to Joe's last night with some cousins visiting from out of town. We didn't plan to go there, but Primitivo was too busy, and Joe's looked good and had a table. We all loved it! The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The servers were very friendly and helpful. The bartenders were great too. I plan to take my parents here the next time they're visiting!
DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE – My wife and I have been to Joe's three times. Every time it has sucked. I kept wanting to like it because of the high Zagat rating, but it's a scam. The service has been awful all three times. The food is mediocre. The atmosphere is noisy. Tonight I ordered the Beef Braised ribs. It was seriously one ounce of meat and 9 ounces of pure fat. Unfortunately, I'm not exaggerating. The meal was a 120 dollars. I definitely won't be going back. I would have enjoyed a corn dog from a convenient store more. And I'm a foodie.
Nothing bad to say – My boyfriend and I ate at Joe's for the first time on a Saturday night. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere pleasant. I have no complaints about this restaurant. I highly reccommend the mushroom ravioli appetizer and the African pheasant entree. They were about as good as food gets. Will definitely go back. Great place to impress a date.
