The best place for a fun night in Santa Monica! Most bars in Santa Monica are filled with sleepy quiet people not looking to get crazy. This bar is actually fun and filled with fun people. Always a good time.

Not from around these parts but..... – Although I am on The East Coast I hear very good things about this place from a certain brother of mine who is out there in Santa Monica. His name is Travis Everett but he goes by the Karaoke Stage name KJ Trav Loaf. He is a dead on impersonator of Heavy Duty Rock Legend Meat Loaf. Back here in Virginia he was and still is one of the most indemand and beloved KJ's especially here in his homebase of Hampton Roads and the small Northern Virginia Town of Woodbridge. His Karaoke show is top notch and can and will make any bar he works at and for the $$$$$$$. The Gas Lite would do good to simply dump the rest and hire the best.

GAS LITE - HORRIBLE KARAOKE - FRIDAY APRIL 15, 2011 – ORRIBLE KARAOKE FRIDAY NIGHTS - APRIL 2011

by TadPiermont at Citysearch

Had read some decent reviews of GasLite elsewhere, so gave it a shot, Friday night April 15, 2011.

WHAT A COMPLETE SHOCKING DISAPPOINTMENT.

This is not to be racist by any means, but the KJ was a total rich white boy trying to be a rapper. The music was horrible. The regulars obviously take full precedence over any newcomers.

We put in a song request and never got called. The same awful singers, if you can call them singers, kept singing.

Had NEVER heard any of this rap music in the first place, so it wasn't even enjoyable rap, but just a lot of screaming and screeching.

It felt like we went to the wrong house for someone's party - felt as if we didn't belong there, weren't welcome there, and could NOT WAIT to get the hell out of there.

The KJ really seemed like a Vanilla Ice-Eminem wannabee.

DO. NOT. GO. ON. FRIDAY. NIGHTS. RUN!!!

Never again – It was the worst karaoke place I've ever been to. It's small, crowded, and the guys who work there are unfriendly. We signed up to sing a song and waited 3 hours, and when it finally was our turn the guy who worked there stole it from us and gave it to some random girls, and when we complained he called the guards and they escorted us out. Yeah, I was glad to leave so I could find some real karaoke bar where you actually get to sing.

Great Dive Karaoke Bar – This place is one of the best Karaoke bars in LA. It seems to be always packed by 9:00pm or earlier.

The crowd is completely random and fun. Both times I went I was completely entertained the entire time. The drinks are reasonably priced and it has a very dive feel to it.

You can tell the regulars as it seems the get priority when it comes to singing. My group had a hard time actually getting called up on stage.

If your on the West Side of town I would suggest stopping in.

Sticky, Smelly, Good Time – This place is a total dive, but a great place to gi with a bunch of friends, throw one back, and laugh your ass off. If you're looking for a place to have a good time on the westside, it definitely deserves STRONG consideration.

Good karaoke, bad service – A decent place for karaoke, however waitresses/bartenders are often downright rude. After giving $1 tip per beer for 7 beers and then skipping once, the bartender told me my next beer would cost $1 extra due to my lack of tip. I strongly suggest picking up a 6 pack at walgreens across the street rather than paying $7 for a bottled beer at this place.

BEST KARAOKE EVER!!! – I don't know what santamonicacares on this site is talking about! The Gaslite has the best karaoke in santa monica. Sounds like you are a bitter person who doesn't know how to project into a mic.

The KJ's rock (especially the chicks!!!!) Great in between music and they are so fun!! RUN to this place...it ROCKS!

Go anytime there's no Karaoke running – The bar is a Westside legend and the staff is cool. "Open at 6:00 a.m."! At the same time, if you're looking to sing go anywhere else for Karaoke.

The KJ is the absolute worst in West LA. She not only bumps anyone else when her friends show up, but she also mics her buddies up while she drops the levels for everyone else to barely audible. It is a total Karaoke embarassment. There's just too many good Karaokes around Santa Monica to allow yourself to be treated as poorly as the Gaslight's KJ treats anyone who doesn't make her "friend" list.

Love this place.... – I'm from the midwest and only have occasion to get to LA once in awhile. Have been in LA 3 times in the last 5 or 6 years. Went to this place first in '00, '03 and '05. Found the Gas Lite first time...made sure I got back every time since. Classic neighborhood bar with a mixed patronage...all ages, so as one of the "older" crowd, I didn't feel the least bit out of place. I miss Melora, behind the bar, but the karaoke is great...all patrons are friendly and approachable. Drinks are reasonably priced. If you're a singer, go early, sing often...gets crowded later. Next time I'm in LA, I'll be back at the Gas Lite.
