The Absolute worse indeed – I moved to Phx 2 1/2 years ago and still cannot find good ole fashioned midwest/eastcoast Chinese food. I LOVE CHINESE FOOD!!!
I tried this place after a coworker told me about it and I read the reviews on here...This is the worse chinese i've had in my life but let me just comment on what i ordered. I paid $9 for a sweet & sour chicken combo with lo mein and egg foo young plus an egg roll ($1.50). The batter on the chicken made it taste like dirt. i swore what i was eating was not chicken, but maybe it was just very very bad batter. it was absolutely awful. not only that, the plate only came with THREE (3) pieces of chicken!!!!! The lo mein and the crunchy noodles took up most of the combination plate (isn't that supposed to be the side dish?). The gravy on the egg foo young was slimey and clear looking. The chicken was so bad that I didn't eat any of it, and i didnt taste the lo mein. I ordered the combo for the sweet and sour chicken, it was so nasty i couldn't even eat the 3 little pieces it came with. i didnt bother trying to eat the fried rice. the chicken left a nasty taste in my mouth for several minutes. OH AND I NEARLY FORGOT about the egg roll. It cost so much because it was the size of a taco bell burrito. being that i love egg rolls, i decided i might as well try to eat at least that. i bit into it and it was just slimey and gross. i wasn't surprised, just again very disappointed. I got my food to go and wound up leaving it in the car while i went to another chinese restaurant near my house to order again. I wanted to give it to some starving transient but I didn't see one. While I'm writing this review I'm eating my food from this new Chinese restaurant, SIU WOK on Central Avenue. I dont like their egg rolls, but at least they have the sweet n sour chicken part down packed. DONT GO TO THIS PLACE, WHAT A WASTE OF A MEAL. It was almost like I expected to be on a hidden camera show. I wanted someone to come to the parking lot with my real meal.
Old-fashioned Cantonese cuisine is still in style at this downtown institution. – In Short
The longest continuously operating restaurant in Phoenix, Sing High is housed in a series of utilitarian rooms, but the decor is not why hungry downtown working stiffs frequent this place. They come for the good food, the quick service and the reasonable prices that have kept Sing High going strong for over 70 years. The chop suey, chow mein, Technicolor sweet-and-sour pork and fried rice are all reason enough to make the trip to the restaurant. But a favorite mainstay is the egg foo young: thick, eggy patties smothered in rich, dark gravy and sprinkled with green onions.
Great place for game night – I went here before the Suns game and it was very good. The egg foo young reminds me of the best restaurants back home in Baltimore. That may not be a good indicator of their food, but I liked it a lot. Don't expect anything fancy. Just great food for great value at a great location (right down the block from US Airways Center.
True Chinatown Chow Mein – The Cantonese Chow Mein is a true Chinatown Chow Mein, it's not for you "picky" chinese food eaters...It a true bit of Americana, since Chow Mein is a Chinese American Dish...The noodle soups are one of the only true ones you can find in Phoenix...You can see why it's a Phoenix mainstay for over 7 decades!!!
Absolutely the WORST..... – This is the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. Myself and two colleagues left 2/3 of the food that we ordered. If you are in the mood for a good Chinese lunch, take my advice and look elsewhere.
