Excellent food – Hi I have been going to the Diamond Chinese restaurant for years now. The place is old but is nice and there is a lot of use on the tables because they have the very best food in town at the lowest prices. I have read all the reviews and they don’t even touch on the quality and flavor of the food. The waitress is not rude at all they are from a different culture and she does not understand the American humor as we see it but at least she speaks English and will explain to you what other people are eating if you want to know and try something new. I have been to a lot of American or other types of restaurant and the waitress only speaks Spanish with a little English at best. You are coming to a Chinese restaurant so don’t be so ignorant to expect those speaking Spanish or English to you. This is one good restaurant and I will keep going back. The staff is caring to all and can’t be expected to have one server per table at the low prices they are offering. So if you don’t care about quality of food then go to the fast food area at your mall and they will give you 150% attention and cookie cutter type food that is half of Diamonds flavor and quality. I think it is the best food in town.
Thank you Diamond Chinese.
Lunch meal with 2 othre friends – We were looking for a place to eat w/my friends and I. So we tried Diamond's. We were greeted with a smile. Given bottled water in a glass w/ice and free bowl of soup which was very good! When our glasses got to about 1/2, she filled them back up full every time. There were several othre Chinese and Caucasian’s there having lunch as well. Our server was very nice and helpful. She explained things to our group about the different lunch items. Her English was good so we had no trouble understanding her. I'd love to learn Chinese Language... My 2 friends got served first, meal was hot and good flavour, then I got mine, it was so hot I had to wait for it to cool down. They served us brown rice which had good flavour. Chop Stix was available and I used them. The restaurant seemed clean and the restroom was clean as well. There were othre Chinese ppl eating there we well and they seemed to enjoy every bite! Our Server was not rude at all. She smiled a lot and asked if everything was good. My friends totally enjoyed their meals and wanna come back again to this restaurant. We all totally enjoyed our meals, the service and everything; we walked out with our belly's full!! We will come back. That was our first time eating there.
Customer service? What's Customer Service?? – Years ago, Diamonds use to be a bustling restaurant with excellent customer service from the waiters and having great food!
Well, things have changed drastically over the years. They changed cooks. With this in mind, the food was terrible! They loss all of their waiter staff. The place started to look tacky. Then the rumors and news articles circulated about cats being found in their freezer...NOT GOOD!
It has been years since I've been back to Diamonds until a few months ago. One day on a monday, I had a taste for chinese food. I had bad luck finding an authentic Chinese food place open on mondays until I thought of Diamonds.
I was soo hungry, that I was willing to give them another chance for redemption. I made a phone order and was on my way to pick up my food. When I opened the door, the place was basically deserted. I was a bit hesitant at first, thinking I should run right back out...Too late! The waitress came out from the back with my order.
I quickly remembered her from years ago. She use to be a VERY rude person before. But it seemed as though she changed.
When I finally arrived home with my food, I opened the foam carton and was pleased to see how fresh and big the shrimp looked and the overall appearance of the meal...Now the taste.
I have to admit, the Shrimp Fried Rice was FANTASTIC!! And they gave me enough for 2 days! Yet, with all that food, she only gave me one soy sauce...What's up with that?? (LOL)
After that, every other week I was placing a phone order. The problem is, when I arrive to pick up my food, it's never ready. They would prepare my food when I'm there...Now the wait! Then, I have to remind the waitress to put more soy sauce in the bag. Still...Food was GREAT! Hats off to the Chef!
Now last week [because I asked], the waitress gave me a generic menu of their specials. $3.95 - $4.95 monday - sun from 11am - 6pm. I thought I'll take advantage of this next week..
So, on this one particular day, I placed a phone order for 2 specials. One at $3.95, another at $4.95. I asked for the total, she said, $12.90 then hung up.
Hum...$12.90?? That's not right! So I wrote this quote on back of the menu and took it with me.
When I arrived, I showed the waitress the menu she gave me a week before and mentioned to her that the total she quoted me was incorrect.
She disagreed with me and said it was correct! She then took out her pen and scratched out the old price on the menu right infront of me and said THIS is our new price!
The Rude Waitress is alive and well!! (LOL)
I said, you just gave this menu to me last week! How would I know of your price hike? The waitress would not budge one bit! And repeatedly said to me $12.90...That's your total!
After she said that, I told her she lost another customer! Keep the menu and the food and walked out the doorI
The issues I see are the RUDE waitress. The cleanliness of the whole place. Not enough help. And extra soy sauce in bag!
I would give this place a half start if there is such an option. I am a Chinese and it is very hard for me to find some where authentic. I have to say their food is pretty close to the authentic.
However, I will NEVER RETURN after my last experience. The place was filthy, the waitress (which is also the owner) was rude and ignores you when you need water or other things, and we waited for alomst an hour before we got our appetizer after waiting for half hour to place our order.
The waitress would try to pressure you into ordering the live seafood which they make most profit from. I ordered some live items at times, but last time their son (a 5 years old boy) told me accidentally they would leave the dead fish/lobster/crab in the kitchen and serve the customer the dead stuff. All the aquatarian stuff is really just for show.
On top of it, when I placed the order, she told me the fish was $13.00 per pound and the fish was average about 2 pounds. And when I got my check, it showed $58.00 for that small fish alone. When I asked her, she first ignored me, then told me she "calculated it wrong." She charged me $16.00 per pound instead of $13, and the fish was "supposely" 3 pounds.
Anyway, it's a dirty place. Feel the dishes, the table, the bowl, and the cups and you will understand. The waitress/owner is very very rude and ignore you from time to time. You have to eat before you go so you don't starve cause they are slow. You will HAVE TO DOUBLE CHECK YOUR CHECK to make sure they didn't over charge you and will have to "fight" for the right bill amount. But, some of the food items are authentic. So, if you are a fool like I was, then give it a try. But, I know for sure I WILL NEVER RETURN AGAING!! No way I will be paying nearly $100 for a chinese dinner with only one fish, one soup, one fried rice, and some demanded tips.
Not Recommended – I have seen mixed reviews on this restaurant, but decided to try for myself. I can see why a previous review states that they have had serious health violations. The restaurant is simply dirty. Food was ok, nothing I would go out of my way to eat again. Waitresses seem to have a chip on their shoulder. If you just got to try this place, order it to go. Otherwise I would go elsewhere.
Terrible service on top of rude servers. – Servers were terribly rude. After we sat down, it took about 10 minutes for a waitress to even acknowledge our presence, and that was only after we got up from the table to ask for service. After she got to the table she picked up our menus and walked off without taking our orders. We then had to track her down again to ask for the menus back so that we could order. 5 minutes later she came back to take our drink orders, there were 6 of us at the table, she took only one drink order then walked off again, we had to once again get up and place our orders at the service window. After a similar experience ordering food, a second server appeared to deliver the food. She then started yelling at us for sitting where she wanted to stand and server our food, and to make matters even worse she had her thumbs in the gravy of a couple of the dishes. The food was a 4 at best and the service was a 0 at best. Then as we left the first waitress came running out demanding a better tip then the 15% she didn?t deserve in the first place, but being the holidays we felt we should leave it.
Best Chinese Food in the Valley – This is the best and most authentic Chinese food in the Valley hands down. My favorites are the wonton soup and any low mein dish, but most everything is outstanding. I must admit it is not without its drawbacks.........open live seafood containers near the entrance and the seeming unsanitary conditions are admittedly off putting, and to call the wait for "take out" long, would be like calling Steven Segal a bad actor. Nonetheless the food is great and very very inexpensive.
Hard to get over the fact.... – This place had some serious health violations in the past and it's hard to get over that fact. I was extremely careful in looking for violations, but I didn't find any. The food is pretty average like many Chinese restaurants in town catering to people other than Chinese. Sorry, but Chinese folks usually go elsewhere for Chinese food but to the Chinese, it's just food.
Great Food Great Value – Pleasant surprise. Read last reviewers review and decide to go have lunch here today. Was pleasantly surprised. $3.95 lunch menu, huge portions. Soup, crab puffs, rice (plain or fried), and entree all included. Staff average for a Chinese place. 4 large tanks with fresh fish, crab, eel and lobster.
