Stay Away! – I had been using Bekelian Auto for repairs since 2007. The service and prices used to be top notch until the manager Tom Murphy's employment ended. Since then John had taken over and the service along with the honest prices have disappeared. I brought in an older vehicle that had been sitting for a couple of years and spoke to Abe Bekelian. I advised him the vehicle had been sitting and needed work. I made the agreement was that Bekelian would care and repair the vehicle until it could be used for a safe dependable daily driver. He then handed me over to John the new manager. There was little communication on their end and I had to initiate contact myself on a regular basis. One day I received a call from John stating that the vehicle needed the carburetor replaced and it was going to cost me $1500.00 for a new/rebuilt one. I told him that sounded pretty steep for a 1994 Isuzu pickup. I asked him to not order the carburetor and give me a chance to do some research to find a better price. I found a place in Florida that was asking $295.00. I called John and gave him the information to order the part. Again no communication until sometime later. I finally received a call from John stating the vehicle was ready for me to pick up. I went down to Bekelian Auto and was told that "there were hidden costs with the carburetor". So instead of the $295.00 it was going to cost me $695.00. This information was not communicated to me and I was not notified of the price increase until arriving at the shop office. I was upset but remained calm and was excited to finally have the vehicle in the condition that I asked. After paying the bill I went outside to claim the vehicle. The condition of the vehicle was not even close to what we had discussed and agreed upon. The answer I got was "just drive it for a bit and then bring it back down". At that point I took the vehicle home and decided they would no longer be receiving my business or anyone that I know. My truck was running very rough and backfiring. I noticed after I got home that they didn't even change the oil! So part 2 to this story. I took the vehicle to Tony's Auto Repair on 35th & Camelback. After inspection of the vehicle I was told that the carburetor needed to be rebuilt and that who ever serviced it beforehand had no idea how to tune a carburetor and had given up halfway into the job. I called Bekelian and advised them of the information I received. The parts manager didn't seem surprised and quickly took my name and phone number. He said he would "look into the warranty coverage and call me back". Guess what? No call. I even called down to speak with Abe Bekelian and was told that he was to busy to take my call. Stay far away from this place!
Courteous and Professional Staff – We have used Bekelian Motors in the past and their service has been exceptional. Any service and repairs that needed doing were discussed with us prior to doing any work. We were informed as to why and the cost of service. If suspect items were discovered, we were notified and allowed to make the decision to do or not do the repairs at that time. Cost of repairs were fair and equitable.
When they followed up at a later date for service that may be due, there was no pressure applied to book an appointment. They did as all professional service people do and offered times available for appointments. When I informed them that I needed to discuss it with my wife, they were understanding and courteous and followed up the next day to set an appointment.
It is a very heavy investment to have the same diagnostic equipment on hand that Volvo dealerships do to service Volvos. They have made that investment which insures that customers have the best, top-flight, diagnostic capabilities available to them.
It is rare anymore, to have service people follow up and handle customers with such professionalism. I have no reservations of giving them a "Five Star" rating.
