We Try Harder to Provide the Most HORRIBLE SERVICE EVER – The service I received at Avis in the Phoenix airport was absolutely horrible!!!! With the exception of the person that accepted my phone reservation and the young lady that actually rented me the car once I arrived to the airport, my entire experience with the Phoenix location was unbelievably atrocious.

THE AVIS STAFF IS VIRTUALLY UNAVAILABLE BY PHONE.

The morning after securing my three day car rental, I realized the brakes were squeaking and grinding. I attempted to contact Avis via phone three times. Each time I called the number on my contract, I was placed on hold for greater than 10 minutes. I finally gave up and decided it was less trouble to drive an automobile with annoying breaks than to pursue the matter.

THE AVIS STAFF MAKES INTERNAL INEFFICIENCIES THE CUSTOMERS’ PROBLEM.

When I returned the car I realized I’d forgotten my company cell phone in the car. Once I landed (an hour later), I was transferred to the most unenthusiastic I have ever encountered. She told me to call lost and found. I asked her if she could have someone check the automobile. She agreed and told me to call back in one hour. I called back and she explained, “We have 2000 cars. Trying to find the car you returned is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. We only have one person washing 2,000 cars. We just have to wait until he gets to it.”

I am a business customer that works for a company with thousands of employees worldwide. My company has a contract with Avis. We rent cars from the chain that allegedly “tries harder” virtually every day of the year. Given that Avis is use to accommodating business travelers, I cannot believe and find it totally unacceptable that she claimed nothing could be done to simply secure my phone. She acted as if Avis is a red tape laden bureaucratic machine instead of a competitive company in a crowded market that desires to keep my business.

THE AVIS STAFF AT THE PHOENIX LOCATION LACKS THE TRAINING NECESSARY TO DELIVER SERVICE CONSISTENT WITH THE OTHER LOCATIONS.

When I returned my car the gentleman checking me in could not simply print me a receipt. Given I needed to remain on schedule to make my flight, I was annoyed and frustrated. Avis and every chain I have patronized in the last five years have been able to simply provide me a receipt as soon as I exit the car. The gentleman I encountered told me I needed to enter the booth to secure one.

Once inside the booth I asked the least ambitious employee on the planet if she could split the bill. I desired to place a portion of the bill on my personal visa card. Her response was, “I don’t know how to do that… I don’t get that request very often…” What? When I was renting the car the young lady assured me this could be done. I believe the young lady that checked me in. I don’t believe her. I am sure Avis has this capacity. In an effort to inspire Lynette to “try harder” I saw the manager's card on the counter and asked, “If I were talking to the manager would she tell me nothing could be done?” The Avis employee essentially assured me that manager is equally incapable of serving a customer.

Avis employees need better training, greater enthusiasm and I find it difficult to believe that employees that demonstrate so little passion and such great lethargy for serving customers have escaped the gaze of a conscientious management team.

Simply put, I am beyond disappointed with Avis for the pathetically low level of customer service that it allows the Phoenix airport location to provide. One Avis, especially a flagship airport location, represents every Avis. I encourage you all locate a more service oriented rental car partner. If you locate a rental partner that really does “try harder,” please post it on this site.
