Dr. Y and staff.... great care for the pet members of your family!
Bad reviews about Dr. Y I'm sure are from owners who are hurting over the situation with their beloved pet. I have never had a bad experience here and Dr. Y has always been upfront, caring and gentle with my pets.
He has always given me a straightforward answer... even though he wouldn't make as much money..... Very Rare!
As pets can't "tell us" what hurts... his exams are thorough... and he has always let me know that if I would like to go deeper into diagnostics that xyz test can be done for more answers....
People Dr's are the same even though their patients can talk.
So if people choose not to do additional testing (even tho Dr. Y's fees are really reasonable)... that is not the fault of the Dr. this is the same thing as telling the pediatrician not to run any diagnostic tests on your children.
I feel badly for anyone who's pet is having an issue... but I wouldn't take my pets anywhere else because I want them to have quality care.
I highly recommend Dr. Y and staff!
Best Vet EVER! – I have been taking my dogs to Dr Yocham for over 10 years and I absolutely love him and his staff. In these years he has performed surgery's, stitches for lacerations, general check ups, vaccinations, allergy treatments, and anything else it takes to keep my pups healthy. I find it disturbing when I see people write how he is "rough" and "traumatized the dog" REALLY? people need to realize Dr. Yocham is a professional vet, not a professional pamper-er. If you want your pets treated like infants then take them to a pediatrician. Dr. Yocham tells is like it is, and goes above and beyond to give good quality care for all animals. His prices are great and his staff know what they are doing also. I really appreciate them being so tolerate with my dogs. Especially because one of them is a big crybaby and they have to hear him whine during his entire visit. :-) I highly recommend South Side Animal Hospital for great service and awesome care for your pets.

Excellent Service and Care – We were referred to Dr. Yocum's office by a friend, who has had him taking care of her animals for many years. Our dog was diagnosed with Valley Fever and saw some neuro specialists prior to doing followups with SAH. Dr. Yocum is very straight forward and basically tells it like it is. He takes the time to explain the situation and answers all of our questions. They have a rotation with a different Vet on Saturdays, but he is equally as good with the same level of service delivered. It is obvious that all the staff cares about the animals that are present in the clinic. Charges are service and meds are appropriate and fair without the huge markup you might see elsewhere. Bottom line is you get way more than you pay for here. I recommend Dr. Yocum and SAH to anyone I know or meet needing a vet!
When quality care is most important – I live 21/2 hours from Dr Yockums' practice. When I feel that the diagnostics and care have to be the best available, I willingly make the trip. I'm a professional trainer, so in addition to my personal dogs I hear about the experiences of others and it's always positive. Dr. Yockum is a vet for grown ups looking for a no-nonsense approach-if your looking for the phony, 'I'm madly in love with your dog', over-the-top baby-talk, you'll have to go elsewhere. My sense is: he cares deeply about dogs and people. His staff is the best trained I've ever seen. Simply put: what you'll get here is professionalism.
The Vet Really Cares about Animals – I have been taking my dogs to Dr. Yochum for several years. He likes animals more than people, in general. He gives excellent care, and doesn't overcharge, or require unnecessary treatments or inoculations. He went to vet school because he actually likes animals.
He doesn't like people who neglect their pets. Don't try to flim flam him. It won't work. He euthanized my old dog a couple of months ago, who was over 15 years old. He was very sensitive to both me and the dog. In his hands was the mercy for my dog that I had been praying for. I didn't want him to suffer, and he went quickly and peacefully.
They don't do boarding. If they did, Southside would be my exclusive vet hospital.
I will never go back – My poor Granddaughter had to take my Shih Tzu puppy in. The vet was very course. Told her the puppy needed testing and offered no options....EXCEPT we could get a second opinion!! Well, I guess since he already had the money for his non-opinion. I was VERY unhappy with the svc. He showed anything but kindness. We left not knowing anymore than when we went in and had to have the puppy put to sleep. I would NEVER suggest taking a small pet to this vet.
Butcher Vet – I would never recommend this vet. He was very rough and uncaring toward my dog. He may be a good diagnostician, but, if you want a vet with any "bedside manner" this vet is not for you. He did surgery on my dog and treated her very roughly. She was so traumatized that she pooped on the table. He showed absolutely no concern whatsoever for her comfort.
Great Vet, Great Staff, Clean Facilities – Dr. Yocham is the best and kindest Vet I have been to in 30 years of going to Vets. He found a heart problem with my dog that others had not. He treats my cats with kindness. He takes his time, never rushes, but takes the amount of time that is required. His staff is also friendly and very efficient. I gave my compliments to Dr. Yocham and his staff over the cleanliness of his hospital. They must scrub the place every day. It does not smell like an animal hospital. If you live any where near Southern and Central it is worth it to take your pet to this Vet. Oh, and the no appointment necessary policy. You do just walk in get put on the schedule. I have never waited over 10 minutes on a busy day. I like this policy as I can go anytime they are open.
WEIRD – Well this was ODD. Took my dogs to Dr. Yocham. Although Dr Yocham seemed a little hurried, he answered our questions and seemed to agree to a conservative plan of treatment for our dogs. My husband is a doctor, so naturallym, asked alot of questions and is also willing and able to provide care at home (ie, abx, compresses, etc) prior to resorting to surgery. Our Greyhound, however, should probably have surgery, although it will just prolong the inevitable. The treatment plan seemed reasonable, however, when my husband asked if we could substitute abx that he has in his office, Dr. Yocham gave us the dosage and then went on to say that he didn't want to be our veterinarian, but wouldn't give an explanation. We've tried to think this thing through, and The only thing that makes sense is that he was annoyed that we didn't want to purchase our abx through him. .... very weird....
Great Veterinarian; my family and I have trusted Dr. Yocham to care for our pets – My family and I have gone to Southside Animal Hospital and have trusted Dr. Yocham for over 25 years. Our pets are our family and are well taken care of. Dr. Yocham is the best; he is very caring and a dedicated veterinarian that enjoys his work and very personable and compassionate with the animals and the 4 legged parents. My family and I don't mind driving the extra miles/distance to this side of town because we know we are getting excellent treatment with a true/dedicated professional.
