Citysearch Editorial Review – If there's one restaurant that would be synonymous with the history and charm of Olvera Street (which is, in case you didn't know, the birthplace of the City of Los Angeles), then it would be this quaint Mexican eatery. After all, this place kicks it so old school, you can watch (and hear) the women behind the counter making tortillas. Lots of folks come just for the tortillas (call ahead if you have a large order), but there's plenty of super affordable south-of-the-border eats like the popular carnitas tacos. Just remember the old-school ethos carries over into the payment code here--only cash is accepted, so be sure to stop by an ATM ahead of time.
